Offshore fishing

Offshore fishing involves fishing from somewhere that is not on or near the shoreline. This type of fishing usually involves fishing from a boat of some kind. The best time for offshore fishing is usually in the early spring and mid summer time. At these times of the year it is usually nice and warm outside and the weather is perfect for fishing. Nobody likes to go fishing in cold and miserable weather.

The only problem with fishing during the summer is that sometimes it is just too hot outside. Although most of us would probably prefer a hot summer day over a cool one, we can only handle so much heat before we get sick. Since fishing involves a lot of stationary movement, it can get hot on the lake really quick, especially if you are going to be out there for a few hours.

One thing that you should be aware of is that if you are fishing on a hot day the fish tend to swim in deeper waters. This is because when the sun is out, the water gets very warm as well, and the fish want to find somewhere where cold water is available to them. The deeper you go in the water the colder it gets. You can often find them hiding under rocks and drop offs near the shoreline if you are fishing from the shore.

Types of Fish

If you intend on doing some offshore fishing, it is best that you know what types of fish there are out there that you can fish for. Every lake will have its very own selection of fish, but the following are some species that you will often find in most lakes. These types of fish are usually universal and are quite popular amongst fishermen.

Trout

Trout and Salmon are usually found in river fishing. Often they will be caught using fly-fishing as opposed to the traditional style of fishing that you are probably aware of. If you want to try fly fishing, take a look on your local map for a river system that you can get access too.

Walleye

Walleye are known as a very tasty fish and are quite popular in the food market. Walleye are usually found in many northern lakes and some rivers. They usually grow to be an average size fish.

Pike

Pike are usually a bigger type of fish. They are known for being very aggressive and taking hard hits when they bite the lures. They are pretty much found in almost any lake in North America and are a pretty popular species of fish.

Bass

Bass are the holy grail of sports fishing. Everyone loves to fish for Bass because they grow to big sizes, put up a good fight and taste great. You haven’t truly experienced fishing unless you have went bass fishing before. There are many Bass Fishing tournaments in North America going on all the time. Next time you see one try signing up, you will probably have a fun time by doing so.

Shore Fishing

Shore Fishing is the complete opposite of offshore fishing. Although it may not appeal to some people, it is great for those who don’t have as much time and cannot afford a boat. It is a great way to spend the afternoon with your many and soak up some sun.

If you do not go fishing on a regular basis, try going on a trip this weekend if the weather is nice. Even if you don’t end up catching any fish, you can still have an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.
