Olive oil health benefits have long been studied and researched. It is one of the greatest exponents of mono-unsaturated fat and is also one of the most significant components of the popular Mediterranean diet. Many people, upon reading or hearing the world oil are likely to recoil and think of it as fattening and bad for the health. However, olive oil is unlike any other oil you have used.

Basically, it is a natural juice that has preserved all of the aroma, taste as well as the vitamins and health properties of the actual olive fruit where it came from. In fact, it is the only vegetable oil that you can consume just as it is, freshly pressed from the olive fruit itself. The health benefits of the olive oil come from its high content of essential fatty acids as well as its antioxidant properties. In fact, unlike regular oil, olive oil is known to help protect the heart from various heart diseases by controlling bad cholesterol and at the same time increasing the amount of good cholesterol in the body. It is also beneficial to our stomach and it helps activate the secretion of pancreatic hormones as well as bile more than what prescribed drugs can. It can also help lower the formation of gallstones.

Research has also shown the olive oil health benefits also include lowering the risk of colon cancer and possibly even preventing it. Spanish studies have shown that people whose diets include the intake of olive oil do have lower colon cancer risks. So, which olive oil to buy? Many people would recommend buying extra virgin olive oil because this is the one with the least processing involved and is the freshest as well. There aren’t any chemicals added and as such, it is closer its natural state. You would want to use this because you want to keep all the vitamins intact as these can sometimes be lessened or totally removed when there’s chemical processing involved. Olive oil might be a bit more expensive than your ordinary cooking oil but if you weigh the health benefits it will provide you with, you’ll see that it’s definitely worth it.
