Dog Food Review - Ol Roy Hearty Strips In Gravy
65- Pet Food Recall What About Our Dead Pets And Vet BillS?
I have thousands of comments and emails from pet owners (parents) whom have lost "Abby", "Baby", "Bruiser","Max" and lots of "Buddy" named pets. I've spent hours reading the remarks from my readers and going to bed with tears on my pillow because of - What Is Clipper Burn?

Dog Food Review
Pet Food Recall Class Action Lawsuit
Ol' Roy Hearty strips in Gravy
- Animal Digest - 1 point possible
Plus 1 point = No animal Digest
- Corn - 2 points possible
Plus 2 points = no corn
Extra Goodies - 1 point possible
Minus 1 point = Meat By-Products and lots of added stuff
Total Score = 3/4
I don't like all the added stuff and I wish I knew what the meat by-products are but this isn't really that bad of stuff for the price and the availabilty. I've seen much worse pet foods which I would have expected a lot more from. I have to say Wal Mart has surprised me with this one. But I would like to remind you that the quality of this food is much the same as you and I eating out rather than a nice healthy meal.

You may have already noticed that it is not JUST Ol' Roy that is included in this recall: also included are some of the "excellent food" that Marina is going to buy for her dogs - Eukenuba and Iams, to name just 2!
Our dog was put to sleep the day before they announced this. Kidney Failure. She was 17 months old. My daughter got her when they evacuated to Arkansas for Katrina. The doctor called me back the next day and said it was most likely from the dog food.
HOW DO YOU GET IN TOUCH WITH OL ROY OR WALMART ABOUT THIS FOOD MY DOG IS DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS PLEASE HELP
My dog had to be put to sleep. And now i can not get in touch with anyone to express my anger.Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!My dog food is o'l roy pouches and i do have all my receipts.
Sandra, send your name, address and phone. We'll do something!
im very upset because on thursday night i call wal-mart stores to averiguate some information about the pet food recall because i check the list of th food recall th food i give to my dog for some many years is in the list when i call to wal-mart i ask which food of the ol'roy brand food for dogs is in the recall is the one i can't give to my dog and i have to returned to wal-mart they said to me all kinds of that food when i go to wal-mart today i bring all the food for ol'roy brand i have in my house they said that dry food is not the one i have to return only cans now i did't know what i have to do because when i go to the wal-mart they still sell the cans and the dry food for this brand (ol'roy) what i have to do in this case because im really very preocupate right now in this case please if you some information about the ol'roy dry food please let me know at my e-mail because when i check the information about this recall i knew that i see that the dry food it dsngerous too. thanks for understand me and i wait if you can send me a message regarding this preocupation aboput this matter
I am very mad because they announced this a little too late!!! I've feed my dog O'l Roy for almost 3 years my dog had been feeling sick for 2 weeks now and yesterday my dad was frustrated not knowing what was wrong. So at the vet they told me it was due to the food but I called menufoods today and the lady was like "that wasn't on the recall list" then hung up. The vet told me it was due to the food anf my dog has been there on and off since yesterday and today. I miss my baby (everyone in my family) I fel into tears when I found out yesterday when a guy that works at walmart told me that the canned food was found with RAT POISON!!! I didn't know!!! luckly my baby is getting treated & I'm sorry for those who have lost your loved ones I know it hurts alot ...
I also feed Ol Roy for several years. Everyone is angery with menu foods for allowing rat poison into their product and with held the information for one month. Well yes, of coarse they did not mention it. They were arraingeing financing with lenders during that time to get them through this giant mistake of thiers once they declared it. They knew what it was going to cost them so they protected themselves until the loans were assured. This is a Canadian company and they have much more lattatude in how they operate than say a company down here in the US that makes dog food. One example is they can use horse meat, which is not permited here. They do not have inspections on their plants like we do here for complanies making dog food. ALASSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! WE COME TO THE REAL PROBLEM AND WHO IS REALLY TO BLAME. The American dog food companies who did not make their own food but sold it as their product. Silly me I thought the OL ROY FOOD in the packets was made by the OL Roy company. My friend really believed the IAMS and Sicence Diet was mady by that company. Seems to me that is false advertising as well as down right bate and switch procedures. The American Dog food companies need to be made accountable for this. They lied to us and put any old crap in the packets. So my 39 cent OL ROY was the same as my friends 98 cent Science Diet? HUMMMMMM
I am concerned about all the talk regarding DRY DOG FOOD. I use ol Roy for my 3 dogs and all the wild cats that show up at feeding time. It is hard to know what to do. What dog food is safe? is there a list of those NOT EFFECTED? THANK YOU
My 13 year old poodle died in Nov 06 of renal failure. He was eating Ol'Roy "lamb and rice"Goumet.
Toward the last weeks before his death, he was suffering with bloatiness, constipation, he couldn't walk straight and I had to teke him out and hold him while he did his duties. His vet had given him a prescription food for his kidney ailment but it was too late, He couldn't eat much. He was having siezures toward the end. How do you take away the pain we feel in losing a pet that meant the world to us? I had him since he was 3 weeks old.
I just got off of the phone with a rep for Friskies canned cat food..and she assured me tht it is safe...I told her that my cat was sick after eating it and that I also had added dry food to the canned food,,and she said it is difinately safe...rest assured...My cat got sick about a month ago also..drooling and diahrrea and vomiting...it was after I had mixed special kitty with Friskies....she remained sick for about 3 days...I thought she would die...Now she pants a lot... BUT, again the lady on the phone assured me that canned Friskies is SAFE...........
MY dog has ate Ol' Roy dry dog food and she is acting strange. She has 4 out of the 5 symptoms, but at first I thought it was because she was mad at me because I left her with some friends while I went on vacation with my family. Should I take her to the vet? I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars just to find out that my dog is mad at me! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!
My dog ate Purina Dog Chow Healthy Morsels DRY Dog Food. I know the recall is mostly for the wet dog food, but my dog isn't being herself. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE LIST THE DRY FOODS THAT WERE NOT AFFECTED, or give me a website to go to, so I know if I can keep feeding my dog this food.
Does anyone know if the Ol Roy dog treats or cookies have been recalled, too?
Unbelievable,.... Look at the heartache this has caused. I want to think that these companies are doing what they can and then something new comes up..... now ol roy dog treats. I was at the store yesterday and the treats were off the shelf. I told my 83 year old mother who lives for her poodles that they must just be out.. surely we would have known if they had been recalled. Sure enough, in our local newspaper they have been recalled, Why didn't we know!!!! We feed everything from eukanuba to ol'roy. We feed what our dogs like take them for regular vet visits and they have always been healthy. I have already endured the expense of blood tests for 2 of them, now today another will be tested, the hardest thing though is what mentally this is doing to my mom. She is scared to death for her dogs. I recommend getting the list of every food made by menu foods and recalled or not take it back and feed something else. I will never feed another menu foods item again!!!
I'm very upset with ol'roy the tele# on their treat can chicken and beef is unrsponsive, another on their dog biscuts was and the person very helpfull but they do not make the the other treats? The dog bones weren't recalled an other # I called diden't know weather they were treats or dog food but said they should be good YA!Don't call wal-mart they don't know anythig,For food I feed my two pugs Iams dry at least I know that is safe
My dog has been eating the dry dog food made by ol' Roy, he has been sick for days and we have taken him to the vet, and the vet thinks that it could linked to the food. Luckily I believe that my dog is improving, after 3 vet visits, one every day. He is still not eating but has been active, I am still worried though that he will not pull through. Is there anywhere that lists the complaints on the type of dog food, are we just going to have to go to feeding our dog what we eat????
I have been feeding my dogs the ol roy dog biscuits for treats.
Yesterday I lost a wonderful family member due to kidney failure and my other dog
is being treated. Noone can tell me this food does not have poison in it!
I will not shop at Wal-mart any more. They play clueless to the whole recall.
They are just as much to blame.
Are the Ol'Roy Jerky Strips safe? My dog is used to getting them every time she comes inside. She is not happy I am withholding them while I try to get information
I just fed my dog shes a black lab some of thoes biscuts without knowing about the harm its doing to dogs im only 14 and i want to know if my dog is going to die and is there a treatment to this if you can please help me!
I had purchased ol roy dog biscuits 28.8 size. Now i heard they are on the recall list how do i get my money back and do i throw the dog biscuits away? Thank you
I think Wal Mart has been very irresponsable in this issue by keeping this products on sale not only in their main stores but also in their "Amigo"Supermarkets for weeks after the recall was discovered.
I am an employee of wal-mart. At the stores we do n ot make the dog food, so it is not our fault. We are told of recalls, and If you dog is sick from eating recalled food, contact the company that makes the food. If you bough food for yourself, and it was recalled, wouldnt you call the company who makes the food?? or would u automatically blame the store. At the time that the recall was discoverd, The store did not immediatly know which was recalled. Now they do have lists of the dates, and UPC codes that have been recalled. Ask for a department manager, and they can clue you in to which foods that have been recalled.
Kylad, you are right about contacting the company. It should be the responsiblity of the company you work for to take care of the recalled products. I realize, you are someone doing your job, helping customers. If the product is on the shelves, that, in no way, is your fault.
Hang in there!
we were just at walmart 4 days ago, the day that they recalled it, and we were about to buy a bag when an employee told us that it was recalled so don't buy it, she wasn't even sure why they were still up... the fact is, that if you had an idea that that brand had a recall, i would think they would all be pulled for pre-caution, or some kind of warning, but i seen people with those products in their carts that day, and no one said anything... it might've been just that store, but it seems it's not
We are hearing a lot about stores not pulling recalled items. I'm confused by something, though. If General Motors sold bad cars and some not-so-bad cars...Ford sold all good cars. Why would anyone even think of buying a GM? My point is this...these pet food producers use the same stuff in all their foods it's just that some of the foods don't have as much of the bad stuff as the others.
How many recalls has Ol'Roy been under? This isn't their first recall.

I was feeding my dogs the ol' roy soft & moist beef flavor the kind thats in the 72 oz box. But from what i have reseurched it seems to me that only cans are being recalled. My dog is really sick but we think it might just be his age.
Get him to the vet. I expect more recalls due to customer compaints.

Hello everybody,
I am so sorry to hear all these horrible stories of you losing your four legged angels :( I've been feeding my dog (3yr. old Rottie) DRY Ol' Roy food (it's a big orange bag, it's dry food dipped in gravy, so once water is added, it releases the sauce).
So far she is not showing any signs of illness, however I BEG anybody who has any information on recalled DRY Ol' Roy food to please either e-mail me or maybe post some links with information. Also, I bought a new bag of this food + a small can of Ol' Roy's and gave her only a spoonfull in her food today.
Also, I would like to know if Ol' Roy products that go to Canada are also on the list, since I live there.
A big THANK YOU to anybody who can provide me with any information. I pray for all of you :(
Miki,
Why would you even try to feed this product? There is a long history of recalls over the years. There are enough Ol Roy recalled this year to scare you to death. You've read about the pets dieing. They are involved in countless class action law suites.
Why is it you want to feed this to your poor dog?

I lost my Collie ( DIXIE ) on Nov. 27, 2006 and thought it to be a Heart Attack
Our 18 month old austrlian shephard/Border Collie mix had four seizures this morning, my cousin called to tell me that the treats she saw me give to my dog yesterday were recalled, he started his seizures about the time he got the treats, they were Ol Roy beef flavored sticks! He is at the vets office as I am writing this, they are watching him, I called to tell them about the treats, the vet thought he was epileptic as was treating him as such..does anyone know if seizures would happen right away? can a pet be OK if the food is stopped immediately. we are so scared right now..Ollie was brought home after we lost our miniture schnauser we had for eight years, my 12 yr old son has been through a lot, i don't want him to lose his best friend...Lori Arthur
Anyone who feeds this food to their pet is slowly killing them. Cancer, organ failure, seizures, and a shorter life span can occur. Go to your local pet store, read the ingredients. Meat can mean anytype of animal (including a euthanized animal), by-product could be feathers, beaks and even fecal matter. No pet should be eating gluten. If you love your pet RESEARCH this stuff!
Lori,
Most pets don't make it I am sorry to say. You have one thing on your side and that is that you pulled your dog off the treats right away. As sudden as the symptoms appeared I am guessing you are feeding a tainted food, too. Check the label for Corn, Wheat, Soy, Animal Digest, By-Products, and Meat and Bone Meal. These items are DEADLY to our pets.
Don't forget National Pet Food Boycott Week June 17 - 23rd. Let's make our message heard, "We want quality food for our pets".
Lori, Alice is right but you don't have to research as she suggested. Just learn to read the labels. If the label has any of the above mentioned stuff you are in trouble. Cats and Dogs should live to be at least 20 to 30 years old on a quality pet food. There are other ingredients to avoid, too. But let's just start with the basics.
Susan
I have been feeding my dogs Ol' Roy brand(dry and canned) for years(about 15) for all my dogs and know plenty of other folks that also do. Have not had any problems! Been using the "Meaty Chunks 'N Gravy" dry and "Hearty Strips and Gravy". The one that I have now, a 4 year old bulldog is as healthy looking(other than the fact that he sheds hair alot) and allout fullblast, wanna play constantly,as I can stand! I only feed the canned a few times a week(more like a treat) as I prefer to use the dry.But the main reason I'm writing this now is that I was doing some checking around to maybe find a dryfood (I was really looking into the Nutro brand)to help with his shedding problem! And then I find all these blog's about all this dogfood with rat poison in it or whatever so now I'm really confused. Think I will stick with what I've been using for now.But that also brings me to another subject that I have thought about for a long time and that is the fact that when I was coming up(were talking 40 years ago) and there was'nt all these vetranarians around, just an old country dog doctor or what have, and the only time you needed to take your dog to him was if he got hit by a car and survived! Why are so many people with pets nowdays having to spend a fortune in vet services to keep there pets healthy?
my dog ate the ol roy food, he is dieing, help
My dog eats ol roy in the little packs. I bought a new box of it yesterday and after eating she starting vomiting. She is still vomiting and she was fine b4 i gave her the food.
