Old Wives' Tales

The quantity of truth in Old Wives' Tales depends on the subjects they are about. If the subject of the tale is about home life and child rearing or child care the tales are almost prophetic.

If the tales have to do with ailments and cures at times the tale can seem ludicrous. Have someone hold your ears while you drink water, to cure HICCUPS. it may work but then so could doing nothing, but then that too is a cure according to another wives' tale.

If my life depends on the effectiveness of a cure, I'll take a doctors recommendation. However that would not stop me from looking up what an old wife might have to say on the subject, after all "You should never have all your eggs in one basket."

While I don't believe every Old Wives' Tale, I do believe what my old wife tells me.
