Oldies & Moldies cont ...
59
This is a continuation of Oldie and Moldie Songs I Will Always Love. I'm doing this continuation hub because 1} the first one became far bigger than I ever intended it to be, and 2} I still have more songs! So here I am, doing something I've always avoided doing; a "part two" hub.
Why have I avoided doing a part two hub? I don't have an answer for that.
Stop asking stupid questions and enjoy the videos!
WHEN YOUR HEART IS WEAK - Cock Robin
This is the greatest band no one ever heard of. I discovered this talented and obscure (here in America, that is) act one night when I turned on Johnny Carson and caught the last couple minutes of the following song. On the strength of what little I heard, and the reaction from the audience and Carson himself, and went out the very next day and bought the cassette tape
I just discovered that Cock Robin reunited in 2006 and released a CD, "I don't Want to Save the World." You can bet your sweet booty I'll soon have it.
THOUGHT YOU WERE ON MY SIDE - Cock Robin
SUKIYAKI - Kyu Sakamoto
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's loved this song for, like, ever!
VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR - The Buggles
This video -- more so than the song -- forever became a part of history when it was the first-ever video played on MTV.
Aside from that, I actually do like the song.
PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT - Meatloaf
I believe this song, and it's performance, to be among the very best. A Broadway or Vegas-worthy performance, it's one of rock 'n' roll's brightest shining moments.
HAVE YOU SEEN HER - Chi Lites
I'm not sure what it is about this song, but I find myself singing it sometimes ... and I never hear it anywhere! All of a sudden, there it is, going through my head.
PILGRIM - Uriah Heep
This band -- and particularly this song -- was my first exposure to how incredible rock could sound with big vocals and big production. I would never look at rock 'n' roll in the same way.
ROXANNE - Sting
I liked the Police (particularly drummer Stewart Copeland) and this song the first time I heard it, but it wasn't until I heard Sting do it at The Secret Policeman's Ball that it became something magical to me.
AQUARIUS - Hair Soundtrack
I didn't see the musical "Hair" until fairly recently, so the only version of this song I'd ever heard was from The 5th Dimension -- which was good, undoubtedly.
Then I heard the original ...
SUGAR, SUGAR - The Archies
WARNING: If you watch this video you'll be singing "Sugar, Sugar" the rest of the day ... and possibly into the next.
Don't say I didn't warn you ...
DAYDREAM BELIEVER - The Monkees
The Monkees were four musicians which the studio hired to pretend to be musicians on a TV show. And they were great at it. Very convincing because, well, they were musicians! But the studio execs, in their infinite wisdom, refused to let the guys really play on camera.
It wasn't until after much fighting that they finally won the right to really play and sing for the show. Not only that, but they started touring, as well!
ICARUS (BORN ON WINGS OF STEEL) - Kansas
Phenomenal classical-rock band, high-caliber songwriting, musicianship, arrangement, production. What more do you need?
SUDDENLY SEYMOUR - Little Shop of Horrors Soundtrack
For me, this song will forever be "that singer, Ellen Greene"'s song.
ADDICTED TO LOVE - Robert Palmer
Palmer is an immensely talented guy. He's a very good singer. He certainly didn't need to do a jiggly, hot-babes, T&A video ... but he did. And it's one of the most recognized music videos -- EVER!
Robert Palmer is also a frickin' genius.
(Truly sorry; the real video said: "Embedding disabled by request." -- The selfish bastards!)
THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE - Disney's Fantasia
I remember seeing three significant movies at the theater was I was a kid: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Oliver, and Fantasia.
HAIR - The Cowsills
As a kid, about the same time I was listening to Smokey Robinson, The Doors, I was also crazy about a family band (the inspiration for TV's The Partridge Family) called The Cowsills. Clearly I was always interested in a wide variety of music ...
How great it must be for this family to have these videos to look back at.
PRETENDING - Eric Clapton
I was a bigger fan of Cream than I ever was of Eric Clapton as a solo artist. Nothing against Clapton -- the phenom living legend -- I just was.
Something about this song struck me -- it's such 'mature' songwriting ... if that makes anty sense.

I, uhh ... glad I made you cry?
It's okay in this case. A lovely memory! :-)
Aaaahhh! You big squishy-softy.
I love Roxanne, Hair and most of all Video Killed The Radio Star, now that one is a classic.
Hi BP, good to hear from. Yep, it certainly is.
Robert Palmer is college for me. My girlfriends and I even dressed as those "jiggly, hot-babes" for halloween.
-Cris, you would think so, hu? But I'm actually not. But they are a very strong part of my history.
And you're very welcome!
-Randy, That's an EXCELLENT costume. First time I heard of anyone doing that.
I play daydream believer in my acoustic set. Also, who doesn't love "Video Killed The Radio Star?"
No One.
Really?! I'm envious. Always wanted to play that song, but just never got the opportunity.
Great job again, Walker.
May I suggest, "Love you I do" from the Dreamgirls soundtrack. When those trumpets come in, everything's is exactly right.
Here's a remake from the revival:

Thanks Tom. I'll check it out when I have the opportuningy.
Somehow, I'm not getting notifications when you publish...but I've got you booked as a fan...soooo I'll have to watch you more closely!!! =))) how are you??
Loved the archies!!!
That's weird. I'm in your fan club, too. Maybe they're being lost in the shuffle.
I'm OK, hanging in there. Thank you for asking. And you?
I'm doing ok, just very stressed and trying to keep that to an acceptable level. Economy hit 2 0f my sons jobs and they are working hard to survive but managing to do it...god bless the young. And we're trying to get to Oklahoma, delayed for a few reasons. sigh. Why can't things be a little easier...still have much to be thankful for, but that doesn't mean things couldn't be a bit better.....
whine whine. LOL
Job is killing us and yet grateful we've still got paychecks....and they know it, so they do what they want with us.
=))) be well....
The bastards. Don't sound like good people to work for. Tell them Karma is a bitch ...
Your sons will definitely bounce back. They're young, they've got good genes - and you're always there to help. How could they not?
PS: Check out the lobster mac & cheese recipe I just published. High drool-factor!
I am proud of them, youngest is working hard as a cook in a sports bar just to have cash; middle is doing any construction thing he can find; oldest started a new career in closing mortgage re-financing and is knocking them out of the park on sales!! He's got great bonus incentives and overtime; and respect for his labor. Something we don't have, and one huge reason we're on the path to our roots...I go back to gardening, an average job with equal pay for hours worked and a slower life.
sounds like heaven to me. I hate to be away from 2 of my sons, but somehow we'll work it out. internet cameras, email, visits.
I did look at your lobster recipe...looks scrumptious!! I'll comment soon =))
Do you still have your Internet writing venture going?
thanks for another interesting hub..... I had forgotton all about the monkees
Me too, til I heard a commercial using Daydream Believer recently.

I'll be saying more on this hub, I'm sure, but had to tell you that I feel exactly as you do, Ron, about Sukiyaki. Brings tears to my eyes - for which I thank you!
