For A Variation On A Theme!

Valentine's Day is officially over for another year. So for a bit of fun I decided to take a look at the Valentine's Day messages from one the larger Sydney daily newspapers so that I could share some of the funnier and sweeter, kinder, and more truthful ones with you. So out of 10 pages of Valentine messages I managed to glean quite a few! There were many variations on Roses are red..etc. some are quite incomprehensible but that is probably as it should be and there is even a marriage proposal in phone text language! enjoy.

Appropriate in some cultures I suppose.

The one I quote was a printed one that I found in a comic store way back in 1965 or 66,

There was another one of Popeye's girl friend Olive on the front, with that immmortal and forever, "Be My Valentine!"

You open it and there is Popeye swinging his Spinach laden fist sending Olive into orbit, with the normal comic pyrotechnic display. With the dire threat.

Or I will sock you one. or something like that.

Like Popeye, but grew to Aterix and Obelisk more, only got to meet those Gaulish guys when I was about 17. Always pick them up when I need a good giggle.

Christoph I hope you too had a great Valentine's Day .. i was swamped with flowers so i was very happy..I didn't mind the videos - despite some crudity - however I preferred the stick figures and the chocolate ones - cheers and thanks

Very intriguing hub Annie - as I read those, I was trying to decide which ones I would like to get as Valentine messages. I think I'm going with Snakebitten, although I would love it if my beloved called me Beer Wench (so romantic). Then again, my husband calls me Kitchen Monkey, so who am I to talk. Thanks for the laugh and a belated happy Valentine's day to you!

oops I just saw that I didn't answer you cindyschulson - Kitchen Wench! - does your other half help with the dishes? if so I have heard - from my friend who is a chef - that in certain restaurants the person who helps out at the sink is called the "dish pig"! seems a fair exchange don't you think! cheers and thanks for calling in..
