61One Laptop per child is better known by its acronym OLPC is the best solution that the guys at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have come up to bridge the most talked about issue of the digital divide. The OLPC is a non-profit organization that came into existence due to the efforts of the faculty members at the MIT Media Lab. The objective of the OLPC is to create a $100 laptop especially for children. The mission was declared in 2005 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Organizations like Google, eBay, AMD and others have donated two million dollars each towards the development of the one laptop per child project. Nicholas Negroponte is the chairman of the organization.
