My Silly Teenage Daughter

Oh, the teenage years. Everyone should have a teenager in their home.

I have a teenage daughter who is ‘going out' with her first ‘real' boyfriend.

Recently, my daughter had been to her boyfriend's house with a group of classmates and it was time to pick her up. As we drove away from his house there were a group of boys walking towards his house. She thought she recognized them as boys that her boyfriend planned to see that same evening.

We took the long way home since it was a nice evening and it lead us past a group of teenage boys at another house. As I looked in my rearview mirror I noticed that my daughter seemed quite interested in them, but didn't want to call too much attention to it. But, yet she asked if we could go back by there.

I drove by slowly and she rolled down the window. She hollers at one of the boys she thinks she recognizes, "Hi, Ryan!" She then tells me that she spotted her boyfriend in the group of 3-4 boys. The only problem is that he isn't Ryan. I asked her if it ever occurred to her that it might have been better to either holler out "Hi, guys", or to at least mention her boyfriend's name instead.

That was the first "oh gosh".

When we got home she decided she should call her boyfriend and apologize. When he answered she quickly blurted out, "I'm sorry I called out Ryan's name instead of yours". His response wasn't quite what she expected to hear. "What on earth are you talking about?"

That was the second "oh gosh".

That's when she realized he wasn't one of the boys at the other house. And she just confessed unnecessarily.

In talking to him further, she also now realized that none of the boys at that house were Ryan. So, now there were a group of boys who MAY have recognized her and wondered why she was hollering ‘hi Ryan".

That was the third "oh gosh".

Now, anytime we're together and I see a group of guys, I holler "Hi Ryan" just to embarrass her.

I think the "oh gosh's" will go on for awhile.

If she gets her funnybone from her mom, I'll have to try to figure out which hubber she is and read her stuff, too. (I think I read in one of your hubs that she and your husband also write here--was I wrong?)

I've tried to interest both her and my husband in writing. My hubby does actually have a Hub account, and posted one or two comments on one of my hubs way back. He would be really good at it if he'd just do it. My daughter would as well. I've tried to encourage her to become an advice columnist/blogger for teenagers. She really has some good advice for her friends and she's able to inject humor into it as well.

Well, maybe someday they'll see the wisdom of your ways-HA HA!!!

I can't wait for the teenage "oh gosh-es". I remember mine and how embarrasing they could be when shared with the parents. But when I look back at them now, I'm thankful they were involoved, and see the humor they saw at the time!

Your story made my laugh. Come to my hub to learn more about Special Olympics. I just want more people to know more about Special Olympics. And, if they don't; share mine. I like writing too. It's the only way I can think of to get my feelings out.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Jswim77! I have just posted a comment in the Forum asking everyone to stop by your Hubpages. You'll have lots of new friends to read your hubs. We all enjoy Hubpages for exactly the same reason, it's a place to get our feelings out.

Quality story.  I think I must have been lucky as I got through my teenage years without any such problems.

Thanks BristolBoy! Yeah, I'm with you! I didn't have the drama or turmoil either. Boy, kids nowadays do for some reason.

Very cute! My granddaughter will be turning 8 this August. I often look forward to her becoming a teen, but also am frightfully scared to go through that phase once again. It should prove quite interesting, to say the least. :)

Yes, that's what I'm hoping. Grandchildren get the benefit of many more years of experience, not the trial and error years of being the child of inexperienced parents.
