One hit wonders
76My favourite one hit wonders
If I think back, there were many catchy tunes that I used to sing along with when driving my car. Some became big dance crazes as special dances were choreographed to fit the tune. Others were used in movies or jingles or TV ads. However, many of the artists who performed these songs sank back into obscurity and never did anything of note after that. Now when you hear the song playing, you think, "I remember that, gosh, had forgotten about it, but who sang it?"
I had great fun putting together a list of one hit wonders that really took me down memory lane.

What a fun walk down memory lane
I just started liking the cotton-eye-joe song and dance! Too bad I don't know the whole dance step. Maybe we can do the Carlton dance instead? I also like the neverending story song. I swear I thought it was sung by just a woman?!
Yeah Sandman, many of the songs, couldn't remember who actually sang them!
John, can definitely see myself making a one hit wonder playlist from these!
May, the guy that sang the Nevrending song just looked girlie, that's all lol
Hmmm...Now that you mentioned it he kinda does?!
Think he then went into musical stage shows
I haven't thought of some of these songs for years! My daughter had a Chipmunks tape that had Achy Breaky Heart on it. LOL!
I loved Bow Wow Wow ! They were very underated musicians . And Nothing Compares 2U was a great tune also . Of course any 80s music I am an absolute sucker for .
Wow Cindy great songs!! There is a radio station here that plays a one-hit wonder everyday and I love listening to see which one it will be. You got a lot of people that I had forgotten about.
K@ri, Tony and TM, sometimes it's just great to go back and remember tyh good old days, and I'm still a sucker for 80's music!
oh my, i was singing them all in my head as I scrolled down. Now I'm going to be singing those for days, Thanks a lot Cindy!! LOL
lol Janetta, you think that's bad, I've now had to find them on the internet to play while I pack!
excellent job Cindy!! there was a TV show a few months ago that did a salute to One Hit wonders.. I remember many of these and several others.. makes me smile to remember the disco years of some of them!! Danskin outfits (not worn by me) spin, kick spin, kick,
Thanks Candie, yeah the fashions then, LMAO
Where's LFO? Oh you know the song...
New Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick
And I think its fly when girls stop by for the summer, for the summer
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch
I'd take her if I had one wish
But she's been gone since that summer...
Lol Cris, had heaps more but had to cut down the list otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get onto my packing!
Oh trust me I know Miss SinDevine as I remembered quite a few while I was reading (and smiling and remembering) this. One thing about one hit wonders though, they are a neverending wonder that always make us wonder! :D
Don't you love the 80's ones the best though? I thought of doing this hub after The Real Truth stopped off at my Sizzling Singles hub thinking it was about music, so I thought, well, I like music, so why the hell not.
Rednex's 'Cotton Eyed Jo' is still one of my favorites... I had planed to buy a full album, when it came out, but the cover picture was a bunch of men peeing in a skillet. Need I say more?
Right Said Fred's 'I'm Too Sexy' was so fun too! ...hmm, must have been into techno.
lol Christa, does bring back memories, eh?
Definitely -- Way too many to list!
Ah you are so right Cin, nothing compares to the 80s (Sinead's song was already the 90s!). Let me see, how about Funky Town by the Lipps Inc.? and Puttin on the Ritz by Taco? This is fun! :D
Got Funky Town on here, had Taco on my orginal list. Also had Anita Ward and Dexy's Midnight Runners, remember them?
Duh! I did not mean Funky Town, what's that song from Chess?
Anita Ward - Rng My Bell
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen! Ha!
O I remember, One Night in Bangkok!
and Carl Douglas Kung Fu Fighting, and who sang Hooked on a feeling? That could have been the 70's though
Dam cindy, you're racking my brain and I don't want to google and cheat! Argh! :D
And then of course there was Alison Moyet with Invisible, Men without hats with Hat dance I think it was called, no Safety Dance and belouis Some with Some People
Wow, did you bring back some memories. Thanks.... good times!
yeah, some wild times when I was a student lol
Okay I think I have some purely 80s campfest! Ready?
Linear - Sending All My Love, Gerlado - Rico Suave, Sheila E. (as a solo artist) - Glamorous Life, Stevie B. Waitin for your Love, Ha! Top that! LOL :D
PS no googling, honesty system!
Ok, ok, Sheena Easton I work from 9-5 or something like that, Kim Carnes betty Davis Eyes, Kim Wild, Kids in America, so there
I think I would cross out Sheena E from your list. Remember For Your Eyes Only? And those songs she did with Prince - Sugar Walls, Strut? :D
Oh Yikes, yes. Okay here's another, Living in a box by Living in a box, and Vienna by Ultravox, and Amadeus by Falco and Da daa da by Trio
We have dogs. The kids bug me no end with 'who let the dogs out, woof, woof..." Old as I am, I know that one. Also, "a little bit of" we'll have Monica thank you. lol.
lol Susan, you'll know the 70's and 80's stuff as well
Oh, I forgot Afroman Song: Because I Got High. Had a techie 'boy' who loved Afroman, put this song as my ringtone on my cellphone. You should have seen the looks when my phone rang. Lol.
Yeah, he had a couple of other strongs that weren't so mainstream as the lyrics were a bit rude.
Cris, JG Giles band, Angel in the centrefold or something like that
and Third World, Try Jah Love
excellent list, Right said fred had a 3 hits in the UK, I'm too sexy, deeply dippy and stick it out
Some of my best memories are with a couple of these songs, and then sadly enough my worst memory of love too... Tops Cindy...
Great Hub! I love some of those songs. Good Job!
~thranax~
3cardmonte, I remember Deeply Dippy, it was a good song but never was as popular as I'm too sexy for my shirt. Even the younger generation now know that song.
Menaredorks, I have some pretty good memories to go with these songs as well
Thranax, thanks for the fan mail!
You so crazy girl....Are these really your favorite one hit wonders....if so you have a broad musical fondness.....but hey....my musical likes run the gamut from Frank Sinatra to Johnny Cash...pretty much everything but Rap.....just depends on my mood.
Yeah Blue, I am like Cris, we are stuck in the eighties
Great hits. I totally forgot about Afroman...wonder what he's up to these days!
Kea, probably getting high somewhere
excellent hub.I like it.
Am happy you liked it, Ashtray!
This is quite a long list. I remember Afroman.
Yeah Kudlit, he was something as he put out his single on napster instead of using a big recording company
Very sensible advice, thanks for your hub.
lol what advice, Eaasi?
Nena had the hairiest armpits I have seen on a woman, turned me on bigtime, yet another fetish : )
lol BC you and your fetishes!
Great info I really will think about this. Thanks for sharing.
Why you going to think about it, Eaasi? Are you sure you're commenting on the right hub? lol Because you had put some other comments on here before which didn't fit the contents of the hub!
I like Thelma Houston song It remembers me of the good days
Tanks for popping in and commenting, Free Arabic Music!
