The lesson in Life that I have learned would be one of a positive attitude and one of no self pity. I had a very, very good friend who was involved in an accident. When he was in ICU we all prayed for him to survive as normal people would. However little did we know what type of life we where actually condemning him to. He did not have medical aid and ended up in one of our local government hospitals! Whilst he was in ICU he was very well taken care of however when he was moved to a general ward that was the being of his ongoing problems that would plague him for the rest of his life. He was paralysed from the waist down and the nurses did not bother to turn him resulting in the most awful bedsores I have ever seen in my life. They tried everything to get them to heal - nothing helped. At one point whilst he was staying with his father by now he was divorced. His bedsores one could actually almost put you fist into. His whole world had come crumbling down upon his ears. He had nothing. His father did take care of him and so did his sister for awhile. However there was always the feeling that he was being a burden to them. He was basically bedridden for about 4 years before he past away.
The most amazing thing that i learned from him is to appreciate life as you know it today. You are free to move around and come and go. You are not beholdent to anyone for even the smallest of things like a cup of coffee. He was an amazing friend and an awesome source of wonderful and interesting tops, we used to sit and chat for hours and although we often spoke of the past he was never depressed or unhappy. He accepted what had happened however the only one regret that I know he did have was that he had spent to much time taking a nap on Saturday afternoons and watching sport on television when he could have been outside enjoying nature and all it had to offer.
We don't i think ever stop to realise that our lives could be changed in a minute and what we knew as an everyday existence can be taken away in a flash. What have you stopped to appreciate today! The fact that you can walk, talk, see???? we take so much in life for granted! Stop now even for a minute and be grateful for what you have in life - even if its troubles just remember their is someone else out there who is worse off then YOU!
Don't put off for tomorrow what you could do today - tomorrow may never be the same for you ever again!
