Poker for Your Amusement

One of the most popular free online games, free poker is a very fun way to pass a little time.

What is free online poker?

Put another way, free online poker is poker played for your sheer amusement. You need not venture anything but your time. Like other free online games free poker exists for you to have some fun -- a pastime.

Think of it as a video game -- one that is like poker, but not poker. You see, in the world of online games, free poker has no consequences. Whereas, people playing for money can lose their shirts, their entire wardrobes, or their domiciles, in free online poker, you have only your time to lose.

That is not such a bad trade off, is it?

Available Games

In online free poker, you will find a variety of games. It's not just Texas Hold 'em you can play. There are a number of games. You will even find games that call themselves "poker", but are actually casino floor games -- like Caribbean Stud Poker, and Let It Ride Poker.

Do not learn to play those games for free, as you will be one step closer to walking into a casino's pit and letting them fleece you playing a game with minimal skill and high chance they have chosen to call "poker". Casino pit games are for bachelor parties and other very rare occasions -- if you ever play them at all.

The true poker games you can play free online include -- in addition to Texas Hold 'em -- Five Card Draw, Omaha, and Seven Card Stud (the true test of a poker player).

Where to Play Free Online Poker

  • AOL offers all the games I mentioned above for free.
  • You can also play at Yahoo.
  • At both places, you can accumulate points.
  • Like other online games, free poker is all about the fun!

I advise sticking with sites that only offer free poker. Playing at a site that also offers poker played for money could lead to regret. It's best to always avoid online card sharps (while everybody says "card sharks", the term is actually "card sharps" -- it's from old time riverboat gambling).

The last thing you want to do is run into a gal or guy like me (or a much better player than me) at a poker table.

Free poker is a great way to start playing poker without risking any money. However, free games rarely are a good indicator of what you will see in an actual money game. Players with nothing to lose play much more loose and aggressively.

That's hitting the nail on the head, LennyP.  Free online poker is insanely loose, because it's poker without consequences.

While it may be the place where you'll see people act the craziest you'll see in online games, free poker is a great way to learn the rules of play for a type of poker one has not played previously.

Say we want to learn the rules of 2-7 Triple Draw, free online poker is a great place to learn.

I hope you enjoyed the hub, LennyP.
