I found the online jewelry auction website, Bidz through a banner ad and got sucked into following the jewelry auctions for a short time. I made a couple of bids and ended up winning an auction. The item was only $3. I made the big mistake of assuming that shipping would be just a few dollars.

This was a huge mistake. At bidz.com shipping for the first item is $10.95 for the first item with an additional $3 for each additional item. I felt suckered but it was my own fault for not paying closer attention to the Bidz shipping policy.

My $3 pair of earrings were now $13.95. I was interested in cheap jewelry, but I probably would'nt have even considered these in a store for the price of almost $14.

Shipping Induces More Jewelry Auction Shopping

Since shipping for additional items was only $3 more, I decided I would try and find a few more items to make shipping my first purchase worth it. I ended up watching the Bidz jewelry auction site for days. I had 5 days before I had to make payment for the first pair, so I only had a few days to find the right items for the right price. I ended up getting a really pretty sterling silver bracelet with butterfly jewels. A gift put away from when my daughter grows up, and a necklace to match the earrings pictured at right.

My total cost was $34.97 for the Earrings, bracelet, and necklace. A fair price for what I recieved. The bracelet alone was valued at $134 msrp. Which in realty terms is probably worth about $40. It's a gift that will go over well.. About 5 years from now. So my total price was justified, but if I had to do it over again, I probably would have passed and never made the first bid.

Online Jewelry Auction Site Bidz Review

So in this honest bidz review, do I think bidz.com is worth it? Yes, for the jewerly shopper, but not for me. If you really, really want the item, they aren't a bad source for some new cheap jewelry Their jewelry is actually quite pretty in person. I am exceptionally satisfied with the CZ butterfly bracelet. The Marcasites and Cubic zirconia earrings and necklace are pretty, but they are just run of the mill costume jewelry you'd find at places like Macy's or JCPenney.

When making a purchase at the jewelry auction site, so long as you consider the shipping price into your bids, you can find so really great jems.

Some Extra Bidz Tips

Here are some extra Bidz tips if you are interested in shopping there.

  • Always consider shipping price
  • Try and bid at the very last second. Bidz adds 10 seconds when someone bids within the last few seconds. Bid late and hope that no one else is watching that auction.
  • Don't get caught up in an auction war. Plan a highest bid and don't go over it. The item may come up later, don't pay too much.
  • Bidz lists the MSRP of items, especially brand name items. This is generally way too high. Consider the actual price to be about 30% of what Bidz says it is
  • If you see a brand name, don't assume that it is an expensive brand. Before bidding do research on the brand. You may be able to get the item cheaper elsewhere.

I never actually ordered from Bidz, but I did attempt to market the company through an affiliate program using facebook ads, facebook denied all ads claiming that the advertiser Bidz.com was banned from their network due to consumer complaints. Rip=off reports has a lot of references to them, mostly relating to their terrible return policy and obviously inflated shipping charges (as you experienced)
