Welcome to the world of online marketing. I don't know about you, but the very thought of marketing, let alone doing it online can be scary stuff. Let me calm your fears and tell you how it can be done easily, at your pace, step by step and in plain English.

I'm not a computer whiz, but this way of marketing online has been easy for me to learn and comprehend. If I can do it, you can too. If you are willing to put in the time, effort and work, you too can market online successfully.

The first thing you should market is yourself. Always remember it's OK to just be yourself online. Don't try to mimic someone else. Your personality is great and you should let it shine. If you have a great sense of humor, let it come through. If you are analytical, let people know that you have to know how everything works before you will believe it. That's OK. It's your personality. I know that when I write, I just let it come out as if I'm sitting across from you at a table. I don't try to be the brainiest person you've ever met. I'm just me. If someone doesn't like what I'm talking about or doesn't like my style, they have the option of clicking off my page. Simple. Much easier then having them leave the seat across from me and not come back. That would hurt my feelings. This way, they don't have to keep listening to me and I don't get my feelings hurt if they want to click off my page.

So be yourself. There are thousands of people who will love to read your stuff. They are the ones you are writing to anyway.

Realize that marketing of any kind, results do not happen over night. I have been in business for 17 years and I have not done much marketing off line. I have been fortunate to have word of mouth do my advertising for me. Now, however I'm trying to expand my services online, so I'm learning different methods of doing this. I have been putting in the time to get the word out about my site for about 6 months now and I am getting results. They started with a trickle here and there. Now I have results every day. My point? It took me 6 months of consistant work, time and effort to see these results. (this is part time work, like 10 hours a week, max) This can happen for you as well, no matter what field you are in. Work hard, consistantly, putting in the marketing time and you will see results. Results do not happen over night, but they do happen.

OK, where to begin.

I have two businesses. One is my hair salon, where I have worked for 17 years. This is the business that I have not advertised much. I stay busy most of the time, so am blessed with plenty of work. My other business is network marketing. This one, too, relies on some type of marketing. Whether it's word of mouth, paper, radio , Internet or any other means, I have to be finding a way to tell people about it. For my first 3 years in this business, I relied on word of mouth. Unfortunately, I did not do as well with this as with my salon. So, I started looking for ways to spread the word about my business, my product and my services.

Here's what I found.

I found a site that helps people like me, (new to the internet) who want to learn how to advertise online, inexpensively or even free. This site is geared mostly to the network marketer, but I'm finding out that it is helping me with my traditional business as well. No, I'm not getting new hair customers. I'm getting new hair product customers. You see, my two businesses complement each other. I run and own a hair salon. My network marketing business carries high quality hair care products, along with everything else. So they compliment each other which is very helpful.
