Opening New Avenues to Network Marketers

The advent of the Internet has vastly expanded the horizons of the network marketing and mlm industry as a whole, giving birth to an altogether new method for recruiting distributors. Formerly struggling network marketers (myself included) are discovering the leverage provided by Internet Marketing.

I first heard of Attraction Marketing and Internet Network Marketing less than a year ago, when I came across an ebook by Ann Sieg, called The Renegade Network Marketer. Today, there are already dozens of free or low cost online systems, designed specifically for internet network marketing. Several of the systems are designed specifically to engage beginner internet marketers. Others offer advanced marketing training and coaching. In a way, the new online network marketing systems have translated the aspirations of hard working and sincere network marketers to real, tangible success.

Looking back at why 'old school network marketing' strategies did not help the average networker to achieve great success, similar to that of many brick and mortar business owners, one factor is quite evident. All network companies have historically been reluctant to allow their distributors to engage in different advertising mediums, such as newspapers, magazines, outdoor signs, and radio/tv. Despite being highly motivated, the best you could do was to purchase small classified ads, with no mention of the company or the opportunity by name. This type of 'mysterious' advertising did little to make anybody's phone ring off the hook. With few other options, you were again forced to go over and over again through your warm list of contacts, such as friends, family, relatives and sometimes complete, total strangers. You know, the old three foot rule. If they were within three feet, they were to be considered a prospect. Man, I do NOT miss those days.

Blaming it on compliance issues, most network marketing companies did not used to allow the average distributor to do much of anything, other than pass around the company materials, one on one, to warm market prospects. This marketing methodology meant that most networkers would continue to struggle and quit.

Ann Sieg, a successful (but highly frustrated and burned out) network marketer, wrote a book in 2007 entitled The Renegade Network Marketer, and the controversy is still stirring around her words and recommendations. When I read what she had to say, it was as if she was writing it just for me. It was such a relief for someone of her background and experience to point out, once and for all, the HUGE elephant standing in the room. Most networkers have known for our entire career that trying to pitch our opportunity to anything breathing was not a good marketing plan. It made so much sense why network marketers everywhere should stop trying to recruit friends and family and begin to transform into real marketers. (Amazing, but true: many network marketers still don't know the difference between selling and marketing. And the difference is like night and day!) And once we learn to think as marketers, it's obvious that the Internet is full of opportunities to leverage our time, talents and efforts.

Most major mlm companies now have distribution set up in multiple countries, on multiple continents. The Internet is the clear way to grow an mlm business in the 21st century. Old, outdated network marketing techniques have not been highly effective for years, in spite of the fact that many uplines continue to push these methods for recruitment.

I am proud to be considered a 'new school' network marketer and a student of the Renegade marketing philosophy. It just gets better and better from here.

How to begin Using the Internet for your MLM business

If you are just starting to learn the concepts of basic internet marketing, and how to integrate the techniques with your business, here are some ideas to get you started.

For example, on Squidoo, you can create your own page, called a “lens”, and talk about your products, network marketing in general, law of attraction or anything else that might attract other like-minded individuals to your page. Squidoo will run ads on your page and for every person who clicks on an ad on your page you get a percentage of the revenues.

Another great site is Facebook. If you already have a business you can talk about it, learn other things about it from other people and advertise your business for free by making people visit your page. If you are just looking to sell something or to buy something Facebook is perfect because they don’t take any commission.

You can make short videos and post them on Youtube. Just make a video about something interesting, related to your business. For example, make a video about your company's weight loss products, or travel services, or whatever. Add a good, keyword-rich description, along with a list of keywords, and you might just show up on the front page of Google by tomorrow! You don’t even have to make your own video if you are camera shy. Youtube allows you to use videos that have already been uploaded by other people. So just create a site about what topic you want and add the video code related to your topic.

Don't forget about the biggest social site of all, MySpace. Millions and millions of people visit MySpace on a daily basis. There’s just one limitation: no direct promotions. So how do you market there? Make friends on MySpace… lots of them.

Do you enjoy writing about various topics? You can write articles and submit them to article directory sites. You are allowed to include one or two links to your web site(s) in the resource box at the bottom of each artilce. Over time, the free traffic will really start to add up from this technique alone.

If you more details on how you do these things, in a step by step fashion, you might want to check out this online training academy for network marketers.

The basic level is completely free to join. This is where I now send all of my new distributors, so that they can get started right away, learning all of these techniques.
