Even if you do not consider yourself a “techie” person, you still get to enjoy the services that social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and Flickr offer. How to use online social networking is as not as complicated as you think it is. It only requires plain common sense, really.

You surely have heard your friends talk about finding their long lost friends and classmates as well as meeting people from other places online. And you surely do not want to miss the fun, do you? To help you get started, here are the five basic steps on how to use online social networking.

Register with a social networking site.

The basic things that you need in order to register are a real e-mail address, a user name, and a password. There are hundreds of social networking sites out there, but choose the more user-friendly ones. You may ask your friends which worked best for them, especially when they were still first timers.

Set-up your profile.

Let the social networking community know you better. Let them know what your interests are, your hobbies, your favorite books. You can also include your skills, your field of expertise, or the kind of business that you are in to. Adding photos and videos would also make your profile page more interesting.

Create your network of friends.

You can start by adding friends that you really know, and then add your friends' friends. You can also look for your former classmates or for people that you have lost contact with, and invite them to become a part of your network of friends. Also, search for members that share the same interests with you. This is the start of building connections for you.

Send messages to your network of friends.

Strengthen your connection with them by sending them a message, and begin a conversation. Check out their profile to know if you have common interests and you can start the conversation from there. These people are also inclined to answer questions, especially if they are related to how the community works.

Participate in your community's other activities.

Your site have other activities too such as forum discussions, blogging, posting bulletins, and giving out testimonials. This would make other members feel that you really are interested to be a part of the community, and they would even invite you to become a part of their network of friends.

How to use online social networking is pretty easy, isn't it? A Web surfer like you should not miss this interactive and enjoyable happening on the Web.
