Writing Online: Content Is King, But Google Ads Rule
74Content - The Undisputed King
Online writers all across the web are familiar with the expression “Content is King”. In fact, it is an undisputed king, because every writer's guide that you come across will tell you the same thing. I totally agree, and I'm the last one to argue such a vital point. What you say is important, whether you write content for a blog, affiliate marketing, an article writing website, or solely for ad copy. Not only that, but how you say it goes a long way as well. .This is such a vital fact, that the expression “content is king” is widely accepted in the online writing industry. It is typically used as a means of driving the point home for those who didn't get the memo.
Okay, so it’s a given. No matter what type of online writing that you are involved with, you need to direct the majority of your attention to your content, right? Wrong! Content is crucial, so you can view it as king, but it's your Google Ads that really rule. When it comes down to making money with your writing, Google Ads can be a writer's most lucrative resource.
Why Google Rules
Google is the ruler when it comes to writing and getting paid online via contextual advertising. Google Adsense (a widely used contextual advertising program) has to be the most popular way of earning residual income on the internet (this is not an official statement, but IF it’s not true, it’s not far from it). A huge percentage of the thousands of writers and online marketers that use contextual ads select to use Google Adsense. In fact, Google Adsense has set the bar for the field of contextual advertising. If you really want to get paid online, Google ads are the way to do it, especially for freelance article writers. Here's the reason why.
Apart from "ghost writing" assignments that you may occasionally write for pay, freelance work may seem obscure to some writers. While there are plenty of creative ways to earn income by using your writing, if you're doing nothing but writing, you are limiting your own writing opportunities. Google AdSense is a way to optimize your writing efforts. Those seeking additional opportunities to get paid with their writing will benefit from Google Ads. To do this, you must understand the relationship between your article content and your contextual ads. So what or how does the connection between your Content King and your Google Ruler work? Well, it goes a little something like this:
Let’s assume your primary purpose is to make (the most) money with your writing. That means you’ll be allowing Google to::
a) Run ads on your blog that is hosted on the Blogger network. You can earn 100% of your ad revenue and the platform is Google friendly due to Blogger’s existing affiliation with Google.
b) Run ads on your HubPages . They are a great writer’s website and provides the perfect platform for article writing coupled with contextual ads. Plus, they have a EXCELLENT rapport with Google (which makes you a friend of a friend).
Now, let's say you're getting ready to create an article and get some ads generating so you can get paid. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your Content King is not the FIRST thing you should consider. When a lot of writers get ready to create an article, they start thinking about what topic they want to write about, with NO immediate thought to the ads it will generate.. This (in my humble opinion) is where many writers make a big mistake in the preparation stage.
NOTE: If you’re writing on assignment and you have a specific topic you are required to write about, you may not have a choice about the topic. That is ANOTHER issue and not the one we're discussing right now.
This particular conversation is about YOU ACTUALLY SELECTING the topic you choose to write about. Whatever topic you choose will be responsible for generating your Google ads. But what kind of ads do YOU want to generate?
The REAL Truth About Key Words
It’s
time some writers and marketers understand the real truth about key words. All throughout our internet learning experience, we hear about the importance of selecting the right key words, in conjunction with our content. There are tons of writer resources and available online universities to help improve writing skills. Many specialize specifically in helping online writers improve in internet marketing techniques. In spite of this fact, the way key words are viewed is typically incorrect.
Realizing how keywords really work will end up saving you a lot of headaches, and making you a lot more money. In harmony with the previous paragraph, keywords are not just the words that relate to the content of your writing. Keywords should relate (even more so) to your Google ads, or rather the Google ads YOU hope to generate. That’s right, for all those writers and marketers who don’t already realize it, YOU are the one in charge of what ads end up appearing on your pages. If your key words are specific enough, they will automatically trigger certain advertisers, simple as that.
So your Content King is a key figure in determining what exactly to write about. Content allows you to talk about the things that will trigger the Google ads you want on your page. To do that, you must consider the Ruler. No matter how great your content is, if it does not target viewers who will be interested in your Ruler, your King is weak in it’s authority!
As writers, we must have the kind of content that naturally “draws attention to the Google ads. If not, “we shall see no royal reward!” That’s right, you will not be getting paid. People may continue to read your writing when they get to your page. You may even get a good influx of traffic with all those bogus “key words”, but it will probably NOT be the kind of traffic that will click on your Google ads. The content that lured them there, and that you actually provide, has not generated the right kind of ads. Sometimes it’s just a matter of asking yourself, "what kind of ads do I want to see", and working BACKWARD from there.
NOTE: Thank goodness Google pays a small amount for a certain number of page views and page visits (that’s a whole other article). If they didn’t, some of us wouldn’t get anything for all our efforts, especially when using the wrong kind of “key words” like mentioned above.
Now

the question may be asked: If Content
Is King, What’s Queen? Is there
