How to Play Poker

Let's come straight to the game without beating around the bush with an introduction, which I have already presented. Just for impatient beginners – before you start playing, limit your betting, decide what will the maximum bet. The limit spares you from going bankrupt.

  • The game is opened by placing an ante or a token for betting into a collection pot. Now the cards are dealt.

  • The dealer deals the cards face down in a clockwise motion until all the players has five cards each and the rest of the cards are placed in the middle of the table. If the dealer is also playing then he should be the last one to get a card in each clockwise deal starting from his left.

  • Every player looks at the set of cards they received and one of them as per you decide will deal first and the next sitting at his left will deal next and so on.

  • At the first round there are two options that you can opt for – 1) Open & 2) Check

  1. Open – by the time your turns come and you find that no one has yet started the bet, you open the pot and indicate that you will be the first one to start the bet.

  2. Check – again the above scenario that no one has yet started the bet and you too would not like to start, then you indicate a check to say that you are not quitting the game but don't prefer to be the first one to start the bet.

  • There are three choices that you can get if the game has started and it is now your turn – 1) See, 2) Raise & 3) Fold.

  1. See – you “see” a players bet to bet just the amount he has bet.

  2. Raise – you first “see” the bet of the player who has just bet before you and then you “raise” the bet.

  3. Fold – when you foresee that you will not be able to win the game, instead by playing further there are more chances of losing more wealth, then you “fold”. You put the cards face down and move away, leaving whatever you have already invested.

  • The other players now get a chance to drop maximum of three unwanted cards and take three from the deck. Your hand should not contain more than five or less than five cards.

  • The same thing goes on with the three options see, raise and fold. Finally the game ends when you exhaust the betting limit and you cannot afford anymore “raises”.

When you are done, you can check the cards of your fellow players. And see how they performed.
