Organ Donations Can Be Personality Donations Too?

It is a well-known phenomenon in organ donation patients to feel strange influences, cravings, and other impulses surfacing after the person has received a new organ from an unknown recipient.

Although not scientifically proven, these people often insist that the new organ they have received comes with 'baggage'.

Kidneys and Cravings

James Baker of San Diego experienced renal failure and it was determined that he should get a new kidney. Being a fairly routine operation, James came out of it with a new kidney and a new life.

However, James experienced very strange and unexplainable cravings after the surgery, for foods like pizza, strawberry ice cream, licorice whips, and Captain Crunch cereal. There were days says James, when he could eat nothing else except those foods.

After researching into his organ donator, James discovered the reason for his quirky cravings. His kidney had been the kidney of a 12-year-old Colorado boy who died in a freak accident.

The boy, upon further research, which James undertook with the young boy's family, revealed that indeed, little Bradley had been crazy about pizza, his favorite ice cream was strawberry, he always had licorice whips in his back pocket, and he would only eat Captain Crunch cereal for breakfast.

James Baker says that little Bradley seems to be living through him, and James says that is fine with him. In fact, he has come to enjoy Captain Crunch cereal and he is never out of liquorice whips.

Organ Transplant Overview

Some sixty years ago, scientists were on the edge of an exciting scientific breakthrough. In the preceding decades, researchers were achieving a degree of success transplanting organs in lab animals, and there had also been a few not so successful attempts at human organ transplants. A number ofstudies revealed that human organ transplanting was feasible, and that it would be very beneficial to many thousands of patients, but doctors had been unable to make it work.

In the 1950s success was finally achieved when several kidney transplants soon began to give brand new life to needy patients. In the subsequent decades, doctors learned how to transplant a number of organs successfully, and they radically improved recovery rates. Nowadays, the majority of organ transplants are safe, routine procedures, and transplantation is now considered to be the optimal treatment option for thousands of ailing persons every year.

Doctors now however are confronted with a new obstacle: demand for transplants has grown far beyond the supply of donated organs. To put it simply there aren't enough available organ donors, so patients must wait weeks and months, and even years, for their organs to become available.

Screening listing and matching organs

Organ transplants are one possibilitywhen a particular organ is starting to fail. Some of the conditions which might be successfully treated with organ transplants are: Kidney failure, heart disease, lung disease and cirrhosis of the liver. In the cases dealing with the heart, the lungs and other exceedingly sensitive organs, a transplant is usually the choice of last resort. However, if all other possibilities have been looked into then transplantation is a good, viable option.

A living donor can provide a liver or a kidney. Often a patient will find a family member who can provide these organs if needed. If the donor is a match, they can go on with the surgery procedure..

Liver Transplant

Mild-mannered 55 year old Edith Harwood of Paris New York, needed a new liver and found a distant relative that she didn't, previous to her operation, know existed, and who elected to provide her with the organ.

Soon Edith began to imagine impulses that were very frightening and totally unlike her. She became angry with people easily, and several times stopped herself in the middle of raising a knife above her head with the intention of stabbing someone simply because they disagreed with her political views.

Upon advice from her friends she sought out psychological counseling. Her doctor, having been informed of her recent surgery tried a hunch and located her donor's identity.

As it turns out the relative was her father's stepbrother, who had never been known to the family until recently had been because he had spent most of his life at Riker's Island for murder.

Edith Harwell was able to have organ removed and replaced with another, more law-abiding family member and she has been well and happy and quite lacking in aggressive behaviour ever since.

Should Organ Donation be Mandatory?

Increasing the supply of cadaver organs is what is needed but volunteer programs have not produced enough organs to make a helpful difference. At present some leading ethicists and doctors are re-examining the idea of informed consent in government organ-donor programs, asserting that harvesting from cadavers should become a routine procedure just like autopsies in murder investigations.

This approach has obvious and enormous obstacles, standing against as it does widely and deeply held religious beliefs about the sanctity of the body. In time, however, with pressing needs for organs, it could be the only solution that works.

It is a fact that half a million people around the world suffer from kidney failure and many are able to pay any price for a donor organ. These patients have two options: wait on incredibly long donation lists or pay out to someone for a live donor transplant

Forensic pathologist H.E. Emson states the view that "since our bodies are "on loan to the individual from the biomass" and constitute "a unique and invaluable resource", after-death decisions over cadavers should be handed over to the government as a trustee for needy, living, organ recipients."

Corneas Give Ghost-Sighting Talents?

One of the most bizarre cases of organ donation and it's affect on the donee, is that of Tom Jerit of Beaupre in Quebec, who, since his new corneas were inserted, has been seeing what can only be discribed as supernatural and extraordinary phenomena.

Mr. Jerit, who makes a living carving small wooden figures which he sells at his Beaupre roadside stand in the summer to tourists who visit the nearby St. Anne de Beaupre shrine, says that he has seen what he calls 'light orbs' that hover around the cemetery as well as ghostly, transparent persons dressed in clothing from at least 200 years ago.

"I have never seen such things before my corneas were given me by the doctor" says Tom, "but now it's as if I have special ability to see what others don't.

Upon further investigation by the local doctor, who Tom Jerit asked for advice, it turns out that his cornea were donated by a woman who, before her death, was reputed to have psychic abilities and a special talent in extrasensory sightings.

Was it this woman's eyes, perhaps genetically predisposed to seeing ghosts, that are the cause of Tom's new paranormal perceptions? Who can say...but if so, then maybe the persons who claim to see things others don't, are not being dishonest and lying--maybe they have true biological reasons resident in their bodies (perhaps left-over from our Neolithic ancestors)  that  allow for such unusual endowments.

i had a cornea transplant in my left eye after my cornea melted when hydrogen peroxide got into the anterior chamber somehow through the hole drilled by a surgeon when he removed my deviated septum and placed a nylon implant that is what i have instead of a bone nose bridge. maybe he drilled to deep and an opening into the eye socket was left. the cornea failed with occlusion. that was ten years ago. i still have the cornea. i resemble the terminator's eye at times. it looks very strange and wrong. behind the cornea i can see movement, color, and light but no real clear image. my doctor did a sonogram on my retina and said that the posterior chamber appears to be ok and i could get a second transplant. no money or health insurance. the last one was never paid for.(contra costa county emergency to ucsf ucsf.) when i went in for the surgery i had a very infected eye with traces of cornea left and the iris and pupil exposed(open). the next day they wheeled me to the door and i took BART back home. the doctor who stitched on the living tissue of a dead person(no info on sex, age, or race, etc. thanks a lot you negligent famous chinese eye surgeon specializing in cornea transplants going all over the world giving people new windows to their soul and perhaps the soul of the dead donor. hasn't the concept of siamese twinning of living spirit and a dead spirit been at least considered in the ethics aspect of these complex wide ranging research tests? slightly over four years ago i experienced a series of visions, astral voyages of huge distance and time, died within a vision twice, entered into split realities that i call dimensional quicksand including stepping in and out of parallel timelines breifly( for seconds only ) had the devil reject me twice in the underworld, seen the battlefeild of the apocalypse all ready with the armies camped in darkness by campfire fires as far as my blind third eye could see,and travelled across

the infinite emptiness of limbo-space-time continuum for 370 or so million years in compressed time to the edge of the existence{according to my tiny angel narrator who is my real hope to be able to share this huge experience with the the people who could understand what and where(seventh heaven)i journeyed to and saw. i have become a stranger in a familiar land with no real freinds anymore except the angels i carry within that i feel i have become a host body for. but they exist only in my thoughts and i have learned a lot in a few short years. i beleive i have unwillingly, unwittingly and, sadly, become a mutated victim of state of the art medical techniques and research experimental tests. now i am trying to write a compilation of insights, suggestions, essays and some songs and poems i have produiced since my life got turned inside out in 2005, five years after the transplant, when my full sister invade my privacy, brought her obsession with native americans and her sweatlodge powwowing navajo bia los alamos brats named waukazoo from new mexico to my celtic nordic existence and caused me to lose my one acre of land and house by my letting her be trusted with the title of the land when i got the land at the same time as m,y eye failed.

while i was recovering she took my name off the deed and pput hers on. and then went around telling the world around that i was a victim of meth abuse and had a mental meltdown when i went berserk fighting off the attacks of the lesser devils and beat them into submission. and in the last few years hundreds and hundreds of events , to connected and to obvious, to be coincidences. the saying that every happens for a reason is a fart in the wind by a voice from a person with their head so far up their intestinal tract that they wear their rectum for a hat. of course things happen. i wear my hands of fate with a cross of intuition on each one.

i carve destiny like the sun melts ice. i have a message for today, tomorrow, and to the future for millenia. my message is easy and simple.STAND IN THE MERCY OF THE SUN. UNDERSTAND LIFE IS GOD. GOD IS LIFE. ABSOLUTE TRUTH IS SUNLIGHT. THE SOURCE OF LIFE ON A PLANET IS THAT PLANET'S STAR.WE HAVE SYNTHETIC INTELLIGENCE EVOLVING ON EARTH AND IT IS EVOLVING IN THE AFTERLIFE MOTHER EARTH. OUR COMPUTERS ARE COMPRESSING TIME. AS TIME COMPRESSES, SO DOES LIGHT. LIFE FORCES ENTER QUANTUM PHYSICS. WE ENTER INTO OUR FUTURE SELVES AS TIME GOES FORWARD. I AM ENTERING MYSELF BOTH FROM THE FUTURE AND THE PAST. AND I AM EXPANDING TIME. MY MESSAGE IS WHAT I REMEMBER FROM BOTH THE FUTURE AND THE PAST. I MUST ENABLE THE MEMORY OF LIFE SO LIFE WILL NOT FORGET ME. MY NAME IS MATTHEW THORN HALVORSEN KEHOE. I WILL BE REMEMBERED AS THE MESSENGER. STAND IN THE MERCY OF THE SUN.
