With more concern about harsh chemicals in the environment many parents are turning to organic baby products. Worth the cost? You decide.

Most baby products contain additives and chemicals that are harmful for your baby. Non-organic baby products can contain hazardous chemicals and additives such as:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) - is a commonly used chemical. Regardless of the fact that it is the number one active ingredient in almost all soaps, cleansers and shampoos, the main reason SLS is used in clinical studies is to cause skin irritation. This is so that they can identify the properties of other chemicals.

Diethanolamine (DEA)-is ordinarily reacted it oils, fats or derived fatty acids in order to form amides that are used as foam stabilizers, thickness builders and emulsifiers in shampoos and soaps. DEA has a low acute toxicity but a significant cumulative toxicity. This is due to the fact that it is can not be easily discharged from the body. So it builds up in the fatty tissues o the liver, brain kidney and spleen. As it is collected in the tissues DEA triggers a build up of abnormal phospholipids.

Parabens - are a group of chemicals that are used as preservatives in soaps and shampoos. The compounds and the salts that are derived from parabens are used mostly for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. Parabens copy the hormone estrogen, which is known to stimulate breast cancer. They are also suspected to cause the skin to age, when exposed to UV rays and dermatitis.
