quick rundown of what organic means

Here's a quick rundown of what organic is, and why I believe people should exclusively consume organic coffee.

1) Synthetic fertilizers cannot be utilized to raise certified organic foods.

2) No genetically manipulated plants or animals may be used in certified organic products.

3) Items labeled 100% organic can only contain certified organic ingredients, except for water and salt.

4) Products labeled organic will contain at least 95% organic certified ingredients, and the balance 5% must be components that are not available in an organic form.

5) If you see the USDA organic logo it guarantees the product is either 100% Organic or 95% organic.

6) If an agricultural item, such as coffee is labeled as organic it can't be treated with horrible fertilizers like sewage sludge.

I'm not trying to harp on about this issue with mindless organic labeling facts, but you should understand what you're getting into with "organic" products.  Now let's discuss my passion, organic coffee.  Looking back at the previously mentioned definition of  "certified organic" we understand that organic coffee must contain at least 95% organic beans.

coffee grown without chemicals

You may be thinking, "who has time to worry if my coffee was grown without chemicals?" well here's a few reasons:

1) Regardless of what you think about standard farming practices, can you imagine slugging down non-organic coffee treated with sewage sludge?

2) There's the , I'm going to play mad scientist with your food, issue. I don't want my Nectar of Life to have snow monkey genes mixed in just so the beans can have less acidity.

3) If you consume decaf. coffee this is where it is crucial that you only consume organic coffee. Standard decaffeinated coffees are decaffeinated using carcinogenic organic solven ts such as methylene chloride and ethyl acetate. Organic decaffeinated coffees are done with hot water and not chemicals. There seems to be proof to suggest that drinking chemical processed decaffeinated coffees may lead to rheumatoid arthritis.

4) Pesticides are not good for the farmers. Coffee is grown in primarily poor countries, and many farmers are unable to read pesticide warning labels, resulting in erroneous preparation of chemicals, and therefore, toxic exposure for them and the environment.

What i've just gone through are just a few reasons to only drink organic coffee. I haven't even explored all the environmental damage that results from just producing the pesticides and herbicides.

Lastly, one must take into consideration the complete love and attention that comes from growing coffee organically. The farmers inspect and nurture their crops, resulting in perfectly developed organic coffee. It's never too late to start buying organic coffee. So give it a try, you may be surprised. Organic coffee is making a strong showing in the gourmet coffee market.
