Organic SEO or Paid PPC Advertising - Is there a difference?

Organic "SEO" Marketing vs Paid "PPC or Google AdSense" Advertising, a Closer Look!

What type of customers or prospects do you wish to attract? Their are many schools of thought out there in e land. As with any solid marketing plan you need to know who your target market is along with how much marketing dollars are you willing to spend to get prospects to you. ROI is the key element one should focus on for both long term and short term revenue streams.

Research finds that these online marketing strategies will attract 2 very different kinds of customers/prospects. Paid advertising or PPC - Google Ad Words is generally more "Hype" based advertising where Organic SEO marketing is a "natural" way of attracting customers.

Is Paid Advertising a Valid Option?

In Paid PPC or Google Ad words advertising campaign, small enticing phrases are linked to lead capture pages which information is often force fed to a consumer. The prospect is provided information that often requires a decision be made immediately which will often put a customer on alert.

One thing to keep in mind, in today's society people have built up a natural guarding mechanism when confronted with pushy sales techniques. This may be the fastest way to get leads and possible sales generated it also requires a fair amount of capital to get your pipeline established.

Paid advertising does work well if you have the right strategy and requires some skill to properly implement for maximum ROI.

Is Your Style More Relationship Building Directed?

Organic Advertising or SEO Web 2.0 based marketing strategies, the customers or prospects are brought into the sales cycle in a more natural "relationship building" style of marketing. This technique is based on human nature principles which creates an attraction to the person or company that is sharing the information via the marketing piece.

In this attraction marketing model the prospects are also more apt to spread the word about the company or product within their sphere of influence. Organic or SEO marketing has a more authentic feel or style where people are more apt to listen to the communication that is being presented.

Recent research also shows that organic Internet marketing attracts a customer base with higher IQ vs PPC or Google Ad Words paid styles of advertising. Businesses who are looking for a lasting client base with repeat sales and word of mouth advertising will find the organic style of marketing a wiser business choice.

What is Your Time Line?

Organic Search Engine marketing does take a longer time to establish and require a little different skill set vs PPC Advertising. Their is a decisive traffic advantage once your SEO campaign has been established.

Studies show as much as 80% of people searching on the Internet click on organic vs paid marketing. This results in a much higher ROI for business owners as trust is built at a faster rate.

Although paid advertising using Yahoo and Google dominate the news headlines, business owners will be surprised to find that the value of organic Internet Marketing listings will out perform paid listings by a large margin.

Bottom line is to develop a marketing strategy based on your short term and long term needs.

  • Small Marketing Budget and Have Time to Develop Results.
  • Small Marketing Budget and Need Immediate and Long Term Results
  • Fair Sized Marketing Budget and Need Immediate Results
  • Unlimited Marketing Budget and Maximum

This post has some very helpful information. I am hoping to help clients with campaigns that combine PPC campaigns with organic SEO.

I am very interested in the images you have posted with this article, where did you get them and how can I see them larger? I am doing some research, trying to find the source of data claiming that a certain percentage of Google users ignore the paid ads and only consider organic results...the common split is 70/30, as in only 30% of searchers consider the paid ads.

Where did you find the data that you reference in this article?

Thank you for any help!

Good explanation on the PPC vs organic types of online marketing. Just a thought, though. Since your hub seems to be, in a way, encouraging start ups on organic marketing, and there are so many do-it-yourself online promotion how-to sites out there, when should a start up decide if they should learn the organic ropes themselves, and when should they job out their marketing needs?

Nice discussion you've provided here about the usual polarity between organic and PPC. Would you have a similar discussion on other traffic generation methods, like article marketing? I do online marketing myself. New takes on any of the standard marketing ideas always interest me. Good hub.

First thanks for your generous comments! My reason for siding the organic is many folks just starting out don't realize the research needed to find correct keywords that will give them the best ROI. Most Newbies don't have or want to spend a boat load of money on marketing to only find out this game isn't as magical as its hyped up to be. I feel the wisest business decision is to take your time and learn the essentials of SEO and key word development. "Finding the Niche markets within your target market is the key to online success!" Once you understand the game a bit more and you want to play around in the PPC arena, then by all means go for it. It just takes time and money to develop these skills. I think article marketing is an excellent way for traffic generation. I use ezines, squidoo as well as hub pages. I also feel you need to focus on a specific area of Internet marketing and become the master of that!

for me organic seo always require hardworks,no certain tricks avaialble for all time, and it is always better to use keyword research assistant rather then laser target blind to what keyword we should link to fast rank

Murilion, I know how you feel, I have spent some time at certain times trying to figure out what keywords to use. Thr reason why I am motivated to spend alittle more time in this area is because once you rank in the search engines like Google, you stay there will very little effort. I look at it like building equity on the Internet. Carving my little piece of Real Estate out and that is exciting to me.

Thanks for your honest comments.

Just read through your hub and listed to Mike Dillard on his squeeze page. Can you summarize Dillard's main points in your next hub? That would be great value added to all. Thanks :-)

Benefits of Optimizing Your Site for Exposure in the Organic Results of the Search Engines Relative to Paying for PPC Campaigns

  • What Everybody Ought to Know Before Hiring a Digital Native

Full of turkey and armed with leftovers, I was able to leave my parents’ house on Thanksgiving without being asked to “look at the computer”. As the youngest in the family, and the only one with a Computer Science degree, I am always asked about anything technology related. (You name it: cell phones, computers, DVD players, etc.) I am the family expert. While I enjoy helping my family, I can’t say that I really do have all this knowledge in my head. I am simply a digital native. Everyone knows a digital native: someone that has a high-level of comfort with technology, always talks about the newest things, and loves to help friends & family, even if their expertise comes from just doing Google research. A digital native's passion is persausive as they rave about some new web site application, but a digital native, in & of themselves, is not an internet marketing expert.   Unfortunately, I repeatedly speak to people that have been burned by mistakenly hiring a digital native that was a self-labeled internet marketing expert. To someone that is not native to the digital world, it can be very difficult to tell the two apart. Here's where it gets tricky: many internet marketing experts can also be digital natives, but just as growing up in a chef's house won't make you a world-class chef, being a digital native doesn't necessarily mean you're an expert in the internet. Business owners and marketing executives need to be especially aware of who they are bringing on board for the internet marketing efforts. Despite the fact the technology gives marketers the ability to easily measure the effectiveness of campaigns; hiring the right people to monitor those campaigns is still a slippery thing to handle. If you're not an expert yourself, it might be many months before you realize that who you hired isn't living up to their promises. Before you realize that you spent thousands of dollars with little results, here are some quick things to consider:1.    Define your business goals and let the expert explain how their techniques will get you there. Be specific here (e.g. 6X as many leads in 6 months, 10% increase of revenue from internet leads, etc.). Without a good definition of success, it will be difficult for you to hold your consultants or employees to your standards. Because you have the destination picked, a good expert will be able to put together a roadmap for you.2.    Ask to see behind the curtain. If an expert won’t allow you or your staff to participate in any of their inbound marketing efforts, you need to be suspicious. The worst thing that can happen to you is that your expert is using black-hat techniques to artificially accelerate the results. The long-term side-effect can be devastating to your efforts. Your expert should also be giving you an education.3.    Get references and case studies because inbound marketers tend to brag. This is your opportunity to find out what they’ve done in the past. Even if your expert is your cousin or neighbor’s son and has no previous experience, you need to make sure that your resource has legs to stand-on. Don’t simply rely on their pretty website or number of Twitter followers. As I continue to speak with smart business owners and marketers that want to start using inbound marketing, I’m sure I will hear more horror stories about how a consultant didn’t live up to their claims. It makes me thankful that the Red Sox don’t hire everyone in Boston that seems to know exactly what the team should do. Are you a hiring manager who is having trouble telling digital natives from the internet marketing experts? Have any tips on how to root out the true experts from the natives?
