Organic Crib Mattress

Most women when "with child" do what ever it takes to ensure the healthiest pregnancy possible. I personally read a lot. I realized quickly that I had become consumed with fear. Don't do this, don't do that. Everything from carpets & paints to food & toys - its all toxic! At some point we have to be realistic. For me my wallet brought me down to reality check in super speed. Yes, it would be nice to dispose of all toxic materials & have a chemical free home for babies arrival but for most of us its just not do-able. I know I will spend on what I feel is the most important what will effect my child the most. For me it was simple, feeding & sleeping. The first few years of a child’s life, the mattress is the single most prominent object in the child’s environment. I made sure to use glass bottles & then I started researching mattresses.

You may be shocked to learn that over the last 30+ years, crib mattress materials have been replaced with petroleum-based synthetics. Nearly all crib mattresses in use today contain polyurethane foam, vinyl (PVC), phthalates, chemical fire retardants or barriers, and an extensive list of added industrial chemicals. The mixture of these chemicals could bring toxic properties to the lungs, liver, and brain, cause respiratory tract irritants & carcinogenic and neurotoxic.I learned that these chemicals leach out into the air ways of our babies, which is called off -gassing.Researchers have shown that autism, sids, allergies & other childhood diseases have been linked to toxic chemicals that are in crib mattresses.

Okay, so I knew I wanted an organic non toxic mattress. I came across mattresses ranging from $259-$900. So at this point my frugal Mommy hat was in place. I knew I didnt want wool, known as an allergen I wasn't going to spend all that money to have my baby end up allergic to it & what if it gets wet then your facing the possibility of introducing mold.

I finally came upon a mattress that had everything I could want, it was organic cotton, no toxic chemicals, it was fire retardant using a food grade mixture of polyethylene. The best was its the only waterproof organic mattress available. I purchased the mattress for $330. It has been worth every cent. I sleep better knowing that my daughter isn't  sleeping on toxic chemicals. The mattress is firm which I also feel good about because she doesn't sink & I never had to worry about her rolling over & not being able to breath. She is now 2 (still uses it in a toddler bed) and it has taken a beating & lived up to my expectations.

Since learning about the chemicals that are put into crib mattresses I opened a store 10 months after my second child was born. I get to spread the word & make these great mattresses available to others. I love informing busy parents of a healthier & safer alternatives. Since then I have added organic clothing, bpa free & glass bottles as well as many other great products. I guess being a customer of my products helps!
