Breaking out from clutter

How many times you tried to get organized? Did you read many books, magazines and articles about that particular topic? If you did and you still ended up viewing this piece it means that nothing really worked. Guess what? I have couple of suggestions for you that might actually help you escape from that whole mess.

I’m not going to tell you it’s going to be easy and I’m not going to write about “7 simple steps to get your house organized.” There is no simple solution to that problem and it comes from the fact that no one is the same. As a matter of fact, we all have our own ways of doing things and even if we try to follow somebody else’s advice we are most likely to fail because it is not our way. So, what is the reason for this whole talk? Well, I just wanted to let you know that it’s OK to make your own decisions. You don’t really need to follow the advice I’ll give you. The only thing that I ask from you is to understand why I give this advice, and some day when you ready, to use at least one of them.

I consider myself a very organized person. However, the reality is that I’m not organized at all. I like to keep things where they belong but most of the time I have trouble doing that. What really works for me is to clean little by little or room by room. I try not to get lost in big projects that overwhelm me. The trick is to clean as you go. For example, if you work in the kitchen try cleaning and picking up right away after something gets dirty. Don’t leave anything for the last moment. Clean that grease from the stove while it’s still warm. It is much easier to remove warm grease than the cold one and you don’t need some fancy supplies to do that – damp paper towel is enough. Trust me. Wash the dishes while you cook don’t dump them to the sink and let them sit for hours while all that food becomes hard and difficult to get rid of. I guess my point is, don’t leave anything behind. If something falls on the floor pick it up and put it back where it belongs. Don’t procrastinate. This way you will avoid getting even more clutter.

Always start cleaning the visible clutter first. Get rid of unwanted magazines, mail and all other junk from your hall, kitchen and bathroom. Avoid starting with what is called the invisible clutter which resides in your closets and on your shelves. You can take care of it later. And remember a house is not a museum. The things in your home to not have to be labeled, categorized, and arranged in an alphabetical order your house is your home a place that you and your family need to feel comfortable in. as a matter of fact, I know from my own experience that people like houses with a little bit of clutter in them. It makes them feel more relaxed and at ease.

Thanks for good advise. I especially liked your the comment about the house not being a musem. This is so true. People tend to overdo it. You need to feel comfortable in your own house.
