Places to have fun in Orlando

Disney World is probably the first theme park to come to mind when thinking about a theme park in Orlando. This theme park, however, isn't the only notable one in the Orlando area. There are quite a few theme parks that have just as much to offer. Mickey Mouse may not make an appearance, but you might encounter a giant killer whale, or a nest of crocodiles. These are a few parks to consider visiting when planning your vacation or student tour.

If you're looking for a unique theme park experience, then consider visiting Gatorland for a truly unique day. This 110 acre theme park and wildlife preserve calls itself the "Alligator Capitol of the World," and visitors will quickly see why; Gatorland is home to thousands of alligators and crocodiles, as well as birds, snakes and various other creatures. Guests can take a walk through an unspoiled swamp for a look at a gators natural habitat, see the parks largest alligators and crocodiles at Gator Lake, and even ride a train through the park and marshes. The park also has a lorikeet display where visitors can feed these colorful birds with small cups of sweet nectar, a water park, and a petting zoo (don't worry parents...the kids don't actually get to pet the crocodiles!). The park also has also several shows including one where guests can watch alligators jump for their food, and even a gator wrestling show.

Spend the day at SeaWorld for more water related fun. Visitors will love watching acrobats entertain guests by working with dolphins and killer whales in one of the parks many shows. View sharks by wandering through an underwater tunnel and visiting exhibits that feature penguins, puffins, and even rescued sea turtles. There are places where people can pet stingrays, view new-born bottlenose dolphins, and check out polar bears, walruses and beluga whales. SeaWorld makes an especially great place for a student tour, as they have the opportunity to learn through overnight stays, guided tours and various other educational activities. Several roller coasters and numerous other rides are also a big hit, and for a slightly larger fee admission to SeaWorld can also include a trip to Aquatica; a water park that has water slides, wave pools, and river rapids.

The Universal Orlando Resort includes two theme parks: Islands of Adventures and Universal Studios. Universal Studios is a theme park where some of America's most popular movies come to life in a big way. Roller coasters, simulations and 3-D shows, all based on popular movies such as Twister, Jaws, and Men in Black, are the main source of thrills in this park. The Islands of Adventure amusement park is structured around five different islands each with movie character, or comic book character themes, rides, and attractions. Guests can take several thrill rides on Marvel Super-hero Island, beat the heat at Toon Lagoon, a comic strip theme water park, or head to Jurassic Park Island, where you can hatch a Velociraptor egg. Smaller children can play at Seuss Landing, which includes carousels, water rides, and play zones based on the popular Dr. Seuss books.

These are just a few options for other Orlando theme parks. Consider choosing your favorite option, or even including several in your travel itinerary. Whatever you choose, there is certainly a lot to see at these parks, and they will be fun for your entire group.
