Therefore, excessive running or physical activities will cause inflammation or swelling to take place.

In the second scenario, the teenager might have a weak set of quadriceps. Therefore, excessive pressure that the quadriceps cannot accept is transmitted to the patella (kneecap) tendon. The patella tendon is a tendon that attaches the kneecap to the tibia. When the pressure is transmitted to the patella tendon, it may become inflamed or swollen. The patella tendon may tug at the tibia tubercle as well. This condition is known as Osgood Schlatter's Disease.

Compliications

One of the complications arising from OSD is the possibility of an avulsion fracture. This occurs when the tibial tubercle is tore off from the tibial. Under such circumstances, surgical intervention is necessary. This rarely occurs unless the patient does not abstain from his physical activities.
