More of my experiences with ghosts and UFOs
Besides the time I stayed in a house said to be haunted by Elvis Presley's ghost, as well as some strange experiences I had in a squat in London there have been many more encounters I have had with what could be described as ghosts and also UFO sightings.
On one occasion in the late '70s I was hitch-hilking with my girlfriend Janice on the way down to West Wales from Cardiff. We had been dropped off very late at night past Swansea at a place called Hendy. There was hardly any traffic and we were tired so thought a good idea would be to get away from the road and find a place to pitch the small tent we had.
So we both climbed over a fence into a field where there were a group of trees and what appeared to be some form of ancient earthwork like a long barrow. We put the tent up and bedded down for the night in our sleeping bags. I didn't say anything to Janice about the place we were on looking like an ancient burial mound because I thought it might scare her and she suffered with insomnia anyway.
Next thing I knew, I woke up and could hear horses neighing and people talking but I couldn't understand a word they were saying. It sounded like no language I knew. They sounded as if they were right outside the tent and even as if they were in it. It was really weird and seemed like invisible people on horses were coming right through where we were sleeping or trying to.
I couldn't see anything in the dark anyway and concluded they must be spirits who were from the mound we were camped on. Janice had some Mogadon sleeping tablets in her bag and feeling very awake but knowing there was little I could do about the situation and not wanting to disturb Jan I took one of her tablets and eventually drifted back off to sleep.
When I woke again it was morning and getting light. Janice was already awake and she said she had had a terrible night.
What was the matter? I asked her. "I thought you had got off to sleep fine?" I said.
"Well, I did," she answered, " and this is going to sound crazy but I was woken up by what sounded like horses and people, and they sounded like they were right here, and it was really scary, and there was no way I could get back to sleep after that."
I confessed that I had heard them too and thought they must be spirits and I told her to come and have a look outside the tent at what we were camped on. The moral of the story being don't sleep on ancient earthworks and mounds unless you don't mind being disturbed by ghosts from the ancient past.
Another hitch-hiking experience I had was also in West Wales but it happened a few years before I knew Janice and had been travelling around with my friend Steve, who was the person who heard the "hummadruz" in the London squat as well as me. We had been dropped in the village of St Clears in Carmarthenshire and having been forced to give up trying to get a lift were looking around for somewhere we could shelter and sleep rough for the night.
We found an old derelict farmhouse and went inside. There were steps going up into some sort of loft area and I thought it would be a good idea to go up there so with torch in hand and switched on I began to climb upwards.
However, when I got to a certain step my torch went off and it all went very cold.
"Steve," I said this is really weird. My torch just went out when I went to go past the next step but if I move it back it comes back on again."
"This is no time to be mucking about,"he replied. "I want to find somewhere to crash."
"Well, if you don't believe me, you try it," I said and stepping down I handed him the torch.
He did try climbing up, and found that exactly the same thing happened. It was as if something didn't want us going up into the attic above and was going to switch off what light we had to make sure we couldn't see. We were both too freaked out by the experience to want to spend the night in the building and went back out on the road to have another bash at thumbing a lift from any early morning traffic that happened our way.
This was not the only time I have seen lights and electrical equipment affected by unseen forces. In my house in Ely when my son Isaac and I were living there there were often strange and annoying phenomena that were similar to poltergeist activity.
Often the smoke alarms the houses were fitted with would go off and there was no smoke or anything esle that could be seen to be causing it. It would often happen in the middle of the night, which was really annoying and eventually I had had enough and took the batteries out so they couldn't work.
I asked my neighbours if they had problems with theirs and none of them did. At around the same time period the bathroom light used to turn itself on, which would mean I would have to get out of bed and go and turn it off again. Sometimes 10 minutes later it would happen again. My son found all this highly amusing but I couldn't say I felt likewise!
Something strange about that house too was the fact that I had two sets of neighbours who had someone who was a UFO experiencer. Next door lived Andrea and Doug and Andrea told me she had seen many of the mysterious craft and even seen alien beings. In the house next to her lived Mark and Catherine and mark too was fascinated with the subject and told me he had once seen a landed craft in Cardiff.
What are the chances that in a terraced street of houses you will get three in a row with people who have seen UFOs in them? I should think it was pretty rare that such a thing happened!
And on the subject of UFOs one night a friend called Ralph, who worked as a taxi driver and who lived in a street nearby knocked on the door and asked if I had seen what was going on in the sky. At the time, Janice my former partner and my friend Pixi were both also present in the house and we all went out the back and looked upwards.
There were lots of starlike objects moving across the sky directly overhead. If it had been just one it could have been a satellite but there were at least 20 I would estimate. They were not shooting stars, which burn out fast as they fall. They were all travelling the same direction and at the same pace.
We all saw them plainly but none of us knew what they were. Perhaps it was fleet of interplanetary or interdimensional craft? I'd like to think so!

Thanks for your comments, Chris! I bet it doesn't look like that now! lol I often wonder what happened to all the stuff I had in the garden!
haha, Chris, and what would you do for entertainment if your good friend Steve did go back to his home planet? ;)
Steve, experiences like yours aren't limited to ancient burial grounds and haunted houses. I used to live in a neighborhood that in the early 1900s was in the country. Residents commuted to "town" several miles away on a railroad branch line, but after cars became common, the tracks were buried and paved over to make the street in front of my house. One night I was in bed reading a book when around 2 a.m. my concentration was broken by the noise and rumbling of a train going by. Wait a minute! A TRAIN? My cat, not normally scared of anything, leapt from the end of the bed and planted himself on my chest in a death grip until the Ghost Train passed. I later learned the next resident of the house had the same experience!
Thank you for your interesting story, Jama!
Excellent Hub Steve, I love all this stuff and it all helps me to be further convinced that there is one hell of a lot going on that we humans don't understand, but doubtless it exists.
It's going on constantly and so much of it, even if a lot of people don't talk about such stuff! Thanks for posting, Cindy!
mistyhorizon2003, you hit it on the head! What people don't understand, they don't talk about out of fear of being considered "weird" or "crazy". But most people have paranormal or psychic experiences, and if more would talk about them, then such things wouldn't be considered "strange" at all, but just a normal part of life. Which is what they are.
Perhaps this is why children talk so openly about their experiences, as they are not worried about being considered to be "weird" or "crazy", they just say what they know. Later as life goes on they learn to keep quiet about the experiences, or realise they get ridiculed when they talk about them, so smother them up or even fail to consciously recognise them as they have by now been brainwashed into believing it is not normal or real for these things to happen, in spite of the fact this assumption is incorrect.
How sad that children have to do this to "fit in".....
I love stories like this and have had all kinds of weird things like this happen in my life. First of all, growing up everyone believed my grandmother had premonition dreams so when she told us something, we watched out for it, revealing nothing, just sort of waiting and sure enough, something would happen. I've had the same experience many times and also shared experiences not quite as vividly as yours, but similar. So the point is ...I definately believe in the power of spiritual phenomenon, can't explain it, but believe it.
You always have great links too. Thanks.
PS. love the Green man site, and the link to hummadruz. I wonder if mumming has to do with the Christmas season mummers, still a tradition in Newfoundland, Can.

Steve, another fascinating hub! I love this stuff. I've often wondered if there isn't a connection between UFO phenomena and earth magnetic fields. I think there have been some books written on this also. I know that electromagnetic field have been shown to induce feelings of alien presence in experimental conditions--I will have to look up the scientist who did this experiments--I keep thinking Pirsig but that's the Zen & the Art of Motorcycel Maintenance guy. But it's 'P' something, the name of the brain science guy... Dang, I hate it when I can't recall something! (So many wasted brain cells up there!)
Thanks Cindy, Madellen, Jama and Pam, for all your additional feedback and discussion!
Pam, Paul Devereux wrote a book Earthights and has looked into ley lines and electromagnetic anomalies with regard to UFOs. I know as a friend Lawrence Main who worked with Paul on the Dragon Project at sacred sites in the UK including Carn Ingli in West Wales where Lawrence was in charge of recording the dreams of people who slept at his camp on the holy mountain where St Brynach used to live and commune with angels. You can see Lawrence in the second video on the King Arthur hub.
Here's some info on Paul http://inamidst.com/lights/earth
Cindy and Jama, I was watching a video about cult rock singer-songwriter and artist Captain Beefheart aka Don Van Vliet yesterday and it was pointed out that he remained as a child and that is the source of his creativity as a musician and painter.

Thanks Steve, good point that proves the point.
Steve, thanks for the link to the Captain Beefheart video. I'll check it out.
Loved the stories, Thanks for writing such an interesting hub.
You'll find loads of interviews with Beefheart and his songs on YouTube. I spent ages watching them!
Thank you, Karen!
I printed your story, so I could put my feet up on the file cabinet next to my computer and read it, nice and slowly... I love stories like these and could almost visualize the horses and sounds of your ghostly visitors!
I am day by day more convinced about all these phenomena, including after death communication, actually, let me correct myself, I am not convinced, I KNOW it exists. When I read or hear others saying all these "out worldly" experiences are not true, I realize its because they have not had experiences like these, but one day the skeptic may come face to face with and UFO or a ghostly visitor or be touched by the unknown and their perception of reality may change. This is indeed an awesome universe, with so much to "see" beyond our five senses.
Enjoyed your hub, thumbs up!
Thank you, VioletSun! Yes, the ones who debunk and deny have missed out on these types of experience!
It's comforting to know you can be our guide on Tenerife as well as in the Twilight Zone, Steve :) Nice read!
Thank you, Ananta65!
Hello! Just wanted to say that I love your look; very cool! You are an interesting individual and I would be honored if you looked at my blog. I am a creative writer/ freelance photographer born in Brooklyn Ny where I also had ghostly encounters but of the evil kind. I wish Elvis would of haunted our home instead! I love Elvis Presley.
The hauntings got so bad my insomnia was off the scale! I didn't sleep for a whole week straight! I heard demons saying my name and I also saw them lurking about. No one believed me until I spoke with my mother and her and I compared experiences. Once while discussing these haunted events with my mom, the hair on both our heads was pulled as if to stifle us.
The presense in that old victorian house is pure evil and drove us to fight violently all the time to the point of death almost! I had the local priest come and bless the house but it seemed to stir things up and make matters worse.
Thankfully towards the end our experiences brought our family closer and we eventually sold the house and moved.
If you ever visit Cypress Hill NY. at 336 Ridgewood Ave, you can sense the darkness of it as you walk by!
Thanks for posting, Dark_angel_awaken, and for your compliments. Thank you too for sharing your experience. I will have a look at your site now but then I am off to bed as its nearly 1am here!
Thank you Bard of Ely for gracing my site with your presence! Hope you
slept well :)
Yes, thanks, I did!
Another interesting hub! I have had my share of experiences with Indian mounds which were plentuful on my grandfather's Wisconsin farm. On autumn nights we would hear horses running around the house. Af first we would think the cows got out, so we would all get dressed and ran outside...but the cows were all in the barn, and there was no way they could get out. We would all go back to bed, and within a few hours we would hear the horses once again, running in circles around the farmhouse. I would look out the upstairs window, and even on bright moon lit nights, i did not see anything.
Eventually, we ignored the sound of horses. We knew the cows were safe in the barn, and whatever was making that noise was just doing its thing. The farm dogs would cower in the barn which was really strange, because they were big half wolf, half dog animals that were pretty much fearless. But whatever this was,,,,they were afraid of it, and because of that, so were we. It was the only time I ever saw my grandfather fear anything. He was from northern Germany, and a very common sense, hard working guy, who did not tolerate nonsense well. Even he was scared.
The farm was sold and now other people live there. I have not asked if they ever hear anything on moon lit autumn nights that is out of the ordinary.
I don't know if these spirits were evil, but I have a feeling that we were living on their land, and they were not happy about it. I am sure they felt that their own decendents had a right to that land. If only we knew who they were!
They sound like the sort of spirits that I have encountered. Some pagans think of them as "Guardian spirits". I think they are just there and are not to be feared in any way unless you are doing something which they would view as bad.

Steve it was your fellow aliens looking for galactic hitch-hikers. Unfortunately you didn't have your thumb out or they would have stopped by to pick you up and take you away. Nice to see your old house.
