The OtterBox Defender Case for iPhone 3G, 3GS is a type of case for the iPhone 3G that protects the iPhone in 3 different ways. There is a protection for the front pad of the phone, a plastic case to protect the phone from shocks, drops and strikes and a rubber sheeting on top of the plastic case to add additional protection to drops and splashes. This case comes in different colors to fit the personality of the wearer.

It also comes with a nice belt clip that securely holds the phone in place.

It isn't cheap however. You do pay for this extra protection. Retail, the phone case costs $50, but you can find places that sell it for less than 30 bucks. I wish I knew about it when I got my iPhone because I paid the full retail price. I am very happy with the case. It did take a while to get used to holding it over my ear to find the right position to where I could hear the earphone though.

Environmental Protection

• Drop and Shock: Protection against drop, bump and shock - people have thrown this phone against a wall in the case and it still worked.
  
• Water Protection: Not tested or recommended for water protection- while you cant drop the phone in water and expect it to work, it will hold up against splashes to the phone.
  
• Dust Protection: Dust does not enter in a sufficient quantity to interfere with satisfactory operation of equipment.

• I purchased my OtterBox Defender (ODB) case about a month ago. I read most of the reviews at that time. I couldn't be happier with my ODB. The price was about half of that charged @ the AT&T store. Putting the case on the phone is a little tricky, but manageable. As long as you make sure that the phone is completely seated in the holster I've had no problems with the phone dislodging. I've only dropped the phone once, and it sure was reassurring to know that ODB was protecting it. My only qualm with the ODB is the inability to use the instant vibrate/silence button above the vol. controls. It is completely covered up, and you have to go to settings on the phone to accomplish this. Overall you won't find a better, more protective case and I know that you will be thoroughly pleased.
• Okay, I ordered this with the hope I would be satisfied. Well, not really. I am not sure why these cost so much. The quality is okay, but its just plastic. Normally I would be okay with case, as its a bit more durable than most. The screen protector is nice.
  
  My big problem is the phone WILL NOT stay in the belt clip. It just falls out everywhere. Luckly the case protected it from its first fall down the stairs. For this reason, I am sending it back. I can't have it falling off my hip. My dad has the same problem.
  
  The other issue is make sure the connector for the bottom is small enough. I have a car adapter that will not plug in due to the case.
  
  Overall for 30-50, I just don't see the excitement. I guess the choice is hard with all the other junk offered.
• this is a great product it is not waterproof but is very durable i would give this product to anyone who has a rough job or just rough in general on phones.
• I bought this case for my Mother. She was dying for an iPhone after she saw mine. I told her unless I found a case that could protect the phone from her, she wasn't getting one. Well after several review searches I found the Otter Box Defender Case. This case is definitely the toughest case I have seen for the iPhone. It has 2 layers of protection and screen protection built in. My Mom has had her iPhone for about 2 months not and so far so good. She's dropped it a couple of times and the phone is still working good. The case is well worth the money in my opinion.
• Truely an amazing and vital protection for my new iPhone 3g. I'm an outside salesguy and a woodworker. I needed something that could be very functional and not get in the way or slow me down with the day to day use of the phone. Also, i didn't want extra bulk. It's not overly bulky and all the functions of the phone are easily accessable. And i didn't want to worry about an occasional spill of coffee or beer to ruin my phone. This cover does it all. In fact, i dropped it twice while running thru and airport onto hard stone floor. Both times it hit so hard i thought for sure even with the case it was going to be broken. No way, the case worked fine. Not even a scratch on the phone. Amazing. Liquids, impact, dust, babys, dogs...no need to worry with this case.
