The Ouija board rule - 'do not play with the Ouija board.'
But the fact that you’re here tells me that there’s a pretty good chance that you intend to break that rule. So I’ll continue.
Ouija Board Rules:
Ouija board rule number one – Never play alone.
I can find no conclusive explanation as to why this is so, but rule number one, ‘never play with a Ouija board alone’ is considered to be the most important rule to obey whilst playing with the Ouija board. Perhaps it has something to do with strength in numbers, or the possibility of being driven crazy and having nobody with whom you shared the experience to lean on, somebody who will believe you.
Ouija board rule number two - Don’t let the demon escape
It is said that should you allow the planchette or pointer to count down through the numbers then the spirit or demon can escape, and some also believe the same to be true should you allow the spirit to go through the alphabet. Having a nice little chit chat on the Ouija is one thing but very few people wish to have Pazuzu, bringer of pestilence and keeper of the four winds running around causing mayhem uninvited, hence Ouija board rule number two ‘don’t let the demons escape’ or ‘don’t allow the planchette to count down through the numbers (or through the alphabet).
Ouija board rule number three – Place a silver coin on the Ouija board
Why?
Silver has often been thought to contain qualities that make it effective as a weapon against evil spirits. Chinese people believe that placing a silver locket around their child’s neck will ward off evil spirits and the Incas believed silver to be the tears of the moon. It is believed that silvers reflective properties are the reason silver is attributed with these powers; silver catches the light, and repels the darkness.
Ouija board rule number four – Never ask about God
This is said to be a big no-no, should the spirit be of the evil variety (and many believe that all entities associated with a Ouija board are of the evil variety) then it will become incredibly angry. The Demon or evil being is said to be aware that it has no power over God, and is not happy about it, it is said that the mere mention of God or Jesus (and other higher beings and deities) will result in glasses smashing, things shaking and flying around, and other weird crazy shit (and not in a good way). So unless that’s the kind of trip you’re looking for, remember, Ouija board rule number four ‘Never ask about God’.

Ouija board rule number five – Say Goodbye
In terms of importance many Ouija board users would place this rule above the ‘do not play alone’ rule. It is said that properly closing the Ouija board after use is extremely important, this is done by first thanking the spirits for coming forwards to speak with you, you should then wish the spirits peace and then say ‘goodbye’. In theory once you have said goodbye to the spirit the planchette should now move (guided by the spirit) down to the ‘goodbye’ written at the bottom of the Ouija board.
Failing to close the Ouija board properly after each session leaves the spirits or demons present and able to influence your life negatively. Should the spirits or demons not say ‘goodbye’ by moving the planchette after you have wished them farewell, then you should repeat ‘goodbye’ and ‘leave’ in a loud stern voice, and then pass the planchette through the flame of a candle.

That's a great story or experience and thanks for sharing it, very very scary, which is exactly why I and many others are so intrigued by these things. In some ways I would consider you lucky, because if you've had a genuine experience, then there's no doubt anymore. You should write a page about your experience, the whole exorcism thing sounds well creepy, I know I'd love to read it.

Forgot to say that it was waaaaay back when I was a kid - haven't played with one since. Probably just our imaginations running wild but I have no desire to play again! I'm usually more partial to Scrabble or something. :)
Thanks for this hub, very cool. I don't know what it is with Ouija boards. I find myself not scared by them, but it's true that weird stuff usually happens, and not good weird stuff, bad weird stuff. I seem to just show up and the Ouija board goes nuts. My kids tease me about this and it also scares them. They won't mess with it anymore. Can't say I blame them.
I, personally won't play with one. My deceased husband and I tried playing one night and it would not budge. He then told me a story of when he was a little boy and his older sister and mother were playing with one in their dining room and when he came into the room, the planchette literally flew off the board, table and into the unknown. They never found it after moving all the furniture. And after my dad met his second wife, we were clearing up dinner dishes and I mentioned Ouija boards and she told me a story of when she and her sister and some girlfriends were playing with one, and it started spelling out nasty, foul words and what would happen to them that were playing they closed it up and never got it out again. A few year ago I found a book and learning to play the board and I never understood it. It was an instruction booklet sold at psychic fairs. Good hub.
awesome hubs - especially this one. we played with a Ouija board when i was a girl and weird things DO indeed happen and i can say for reals that in two cases, once as a girl and once as a teen, the demon got loose! in one case, as a girl, it didn't show itself but would do weird things during the night like turning the dials on the stove all the way up to High, walking through the house (you could HEAR IT), and pouding on the walls. we finally had to move and my father burned the Ouija board. the second time, years later, my sister started messing around with one and i was staying at her apartment and she was out and wouldn't be back til late and i swear to God i SAW something walking into her room down the hall...only it didn't really walk it sort of bobbed into her room. it was a tall male figure with raven hair tucked into a high collar and wearing a shiny satin robe that was very bright red - i stayed outside on the steps until she got home.

Funny how I would accidentally stumble upon this hub just a day after telling a work colleague of the frightening experience I had over 20 years ago.
I was a rebel back then, as well as a skeptic, and after gathering around the board with a group of friends and wondering which one of us was moving it, I decided to break rule #1.
That's right, I waited for the boyfriend I was living with to go to work and then dug it out of our closet to see if the damn thing really moved on its own. After all, I would know if I were moving it or not. And the damnedest thing happened....it really did! I remember gingerly touching the sides and holding completely still, including holding my breath, so if it did move, I'd have no doubt in my mind that I didn't move it by accident or imagine a movement that never really happened. That was the start of my "correspondence" with B1BK.
B1BK was the name it gave itself when I was blasting it with a list of questions as long as the bible, including, of course, his name. I haven't a clue what B1BK means, or if it's simply a random group of characters it chose like plastic ducks in a carnival pond. I remember only that is what it called itself each time I opened the board and summoned it.
Once I had satiated my curiousity of whether or not it contained some secret battery compartment or if someone else had simply but subtly made it move, I graduated to typical questions one might ask the dead, such as who I'm going to marry, how many kids I might have, and so forth. As if being a spirit somehow gives someone the knowledge of God; that being dead and stuck in this world makes them know every chapter of your life before it even comes up in the book because you happened to come in contact with it. However, I was young, naive, and totally enthralled with my proof that there really is life after death, and I just couldn't stop myself.
Until one day when I pulled it out of the box and touched the cursor to the board and it went apeshit on me. No matter what I said to it or asked it, it wouldn't stop. And then when I asked it if it was B1BK, it moved to the 6, circled the board, moved to the 6 again, and repeated that repition once more for a very clear 666 message. And then it said "Goodbye."
I flew off the floor and flung the thing back into the box, hurled it onto the top shelf of the closet, and ran like hell out of the apartment. From my experience and the others I read about above, weird spooky Ouija exeriences can only truly be prevented like teen pregnancy. Fight the temptation and curiousity and abstain from it. The potential outcome just isn't worth it.
I used one as a child several times. I even tried to use it alone, and when I did, nothing would happen. After friends and I used one, strange things started happening around the house. I personally dont remember any strange occurances, except a much stronger, and eerie feeling, as if someone were watching you. My parents however have some crazy stories.
My dad reported being woken up from a nap, laying on the sofa, to the sound of our dog, (who had just been killed run over by a car)running up the stairs. He said he could even see him materialize through the spindles.
My Mother told me a story about how her and my Father were awoken one night out of a sound sleep, to the sound of a conversation somewhere in the house. Upon investigation, there was nobody in the house, (I was spending the night at a friend's house.) and there were no televisions, or radios on in the house. Strange.....
And one time I bought a seance kit from Spencer gifts, and tried to get friends together to have a seance. I became anxious, and wanted to go ahead and have one, so I attempted it alone. A few short days later, I saw a shadowy figure move across my bedroom one night, and I cant remember when I have been that freaked out. It just dissappeared.
My advice is not to flirt with the dark side. Know that it exists solely to break you down, and to do nothing but harm, and evil.
This is not a game or a play. Please stop saying like that. There is real danger in using these things. If you use spirits for your purposes, they're gonna do the same to u too, sooner or later. And also, its not just spirits, its nothing more than influence of satan.

BOB, about your question, demons might stay trap in the house or they can stay in the surroundings, also demons can fallow u to another location. it all depends of the demons strength. theres really weak demons and theres really powerfull demons, those strong demons most of the times have names and u might be able to find the demon's name in the bible. just know demons want to harm u and want u to be unhappy. and most of all know that GOD overpowers the devil himself and no demon has enough power to challenge GOD, as a matter of fact they all fear GOD. People that not belive in GOD need to realize, hes our GOD and hes real, u just need FAITH.
omg these stories are soo interesting, on my behalf shoot id never** use one of thoes boards, um i hear not everything from the ouija board is negative, phsychics can communicate directly with the spirits they want to, other people too but i wont risk it. ive thought about trying the ouija board mannny times like last night i dont know if its coincidence but i woke up with two little scratches on my face and two on my nuckles wth?, i looove real supernatural stories wooooo!!!
guys take my advice NEVER** mess with the ouija board even if your tempted to do so, expecially if you have no experience doing it, all ull bring out is bad things

Use the ouija board on halloween. you and your friends will have a blast... and as long as your respectful, smart, and well versed in manners you should be fine. treat anything you speak with through the board as though its an elder of yours deserving the utmost respect. but none the less... if things start getting hairy(angry,scary,mean,or profane)... tell it to leave and say goodbye and slide the planchette off the bottom of the board.
I've had a history with spiritual things so i don't like messing with it. I grew up next to a cemetary and i decided to use the board. i sat next to a headstone that marked the grave of a girl whose name was sarah too. the discussion went to me and i asked it when i was going to die. It said 2023. Then my friend asked if it was going to be of natural causes and it said no. Then I frantically asked it if i was going to die by someone i know. and it said yes. After that i never targetted myself wit questions. i believe that these things are real but they are not a game. Once you are involved with that world, it's hard to let go.
The other night, my boyfriend and his friends wanted to use one. my boyfriend never used one before so he went just to see a reaction. We went to several graveyards but the last one was the one that freaked me out. We found out that the being we were talking to was watching over her family who she lost when she was 10 yrs old. I wasnt listening to the questions but some dude asked it a question and it pissed off the "spirit". After that, I felt like i was being followed by something and then, i swear to God, i saw something start walking and then run behind a tree. It was a tall man with super long legs. After i saw that, i asked it if it just made an appearance. It said yes. We asked it if we could leave. It said no. Then we asked it was it wanted from us and it said 'Death'. It wouldnt let us leave then we found out that it wanted one of us to stay. We left right after that.
Trust me, its not smart nor is it safe to mess with this world. I'm never doing it again.

Also, on a spiritual note, i have read passages from the Bible that states God gets angry when we use witchcraft / sorcery to ask questions about things we should not naturally know the answer to already. Also, just because they are dead does NOT mean they know the correct answers to our questions. i like ouija board and it really does work.. me and 6 other friends did it and everyone in that group got someone we knew and nobody knew about who died in their familys. we then moved to the park across the street from my friends house and it was about 7:30 in the middle of the summer and this family (dad,mom, and 2 sons)came and the littlest boy, he was i think 4 or 5 and he kept coming by us to see what we were doing and then the mom came over and asked if he was bothering us and we said no hes fine and she asked if she could do the ouija board bc her mom had died 3 weeks before. we never met this lady in our life and we didnt even know her name or her mom's name (shes the one who died a few weeks ago) so we let the lady join us and her mom comes through. we didnt know this ladies name and she started crying and it was freaky but very,very cool at the same time.. i got my great grandpa salvatore and no one else knew that he died and i asked how my nanie was and my great grandma and he was with them and he said they were dong great.. i started crying i was soo happy even though i never met him or my great grandma but i did meet my nanie but i was 4 when she died but its still very interesting and i love this game alott. =]
i have always been curious about the ouija board and have always wanted to experiment with it. But i never knew where i could get one. and then my moms friend brought up that she had one and had experimented with it a few times and had gotten some reactions from it.
So the other night my mother, her friend and i were all using it and asking the basic quiestion. "are there any spirits with us tonight?" and it said yes. And then my mom asked who it was and it spelled out "mom". we werent sure whos mom it was, my moms mom or her friends mom. so we asked what her first name was. and it spelled out nancy. That indeed was my grandmothers name. And so my family is going through some really tough times right now and my mom asked her "Help give me the answers to how to be strong throughout these times mom?" and it spelled out "L-O-V-E". After she spelled that out i wanted to be absolutly sure it was my grandmother so i asked her "what was my nickname from you?" and it spelled out "funnyface". And that was my nickname. I was then convinced that the Ouija Board did work.

A few friends and I will be using one this weekend on all hollows eve and will be recording our experience. I go to a Franciscan catholic college and we plan on doing it somewhere on campus however a few years back a group of kids were caught practicing satanism in one of the resident halls' attic. I am not a believer of any faith however I do believe in an life after death should. Does being on religious grounds warrant any sorta protection at all or did it all go out the window when the kids practiced the ocult. I was talking to my mom about it last night and basically scared the piss outta me... She kept saying most of the ouija boards used open up people and demons/entities follow you around and cause terrible things to happen. She said her best friend's mom had used one once and she asked about her future, which obviously isn't a good idea in the first place. she was told that her firstborn son would problems. sure as shit, her firstborn son was born with cerebal palsy.
My friends and I are interested in using it on Saturday night... I wanna see if I could maybe talk to my grandfather or brother to get some answers. People keep telling me not to ask personal questions for personal gain. Keep basic questions out in the board, like names and age. maybe their cause of death... just stuff like that. never try and ask the spirits about yourself because you're using them, and most definitely will be used sooner or later, as stated above. This stuff definitely is spooky and granted I'm a rebel child and am intrigued by this, i'm doing research before i mess with that stuff.
Me and my friend used one last night, and the spirit we seemed to contact, Nelson, was perfectly pleasant, and funny. Now, I'm still very skeptical, but it was still sort of freaky and fun. The one thing that really made me skeptical though is that it spoke in weird almost childish language. We asked it one question (can't remember what) and it said "probs". It would also move to the sun to indicate :), and move to the moon to indicate :(. We asked if this is what it was doing and it quickly moved to Yes. I think I also asked if the world would end in 2012, and it moved to the moon. Apparently he gets asked that a lot. When I apologized, and asked if he accepted my apology, he responded "good enough". It was weird, very odd, and also fun. It got creepy when he tried to count down to zero, so I stopped it and said goodbye.
me and my friends tried one of those ouijboards and it said realy nasty stuff to us not like swear words or anything at first it said have a pillow fight, then it said to have a shower we obviosly didnt do that then it got real mad and my friends top ripped right off and we could feel our bra's being pulled i even felt hands round my waste!! we closed the rotten thing and went to sleep that night i had a dream that some realy disgusting demon was doing STUFF to me it was horrible we had to get a buhdist munk to rid of it but every night i still feel its terrible presence...

i remeber when me my mother and a few friends played it at our old house. Before my mother and my oldest sibling wich is my brother, she was supposed to have a boy, and she was gonna name him matthew, the wierdest thing about it was we talked to him, i was kinda scared because i have never played it before, and then we talked to this young girl about 18 and i asked her how her death happened and she said she was raped and murdered, and i was soo scared i cried for like 2 hours, it made me feel bad. But a while after we played that my boyfriend and my sister and my friend was in my bedroom about to go to sleep, and it was dark in my room, we seen something walking across my room i wass sooo scared!, But i remember when i was at least 11 or 12 i have never heard of the board, i was living with my grand mother then and she was working late nights, and i was in my living room laying on the couch talkin to my boyfriend at the time, and then we got off the phone and i went to put the phone on the table, and i can see straight down my hall way and i seen a dark man figure at my bedroom door, and a few months after that happened still NEVER played the board, i was in my bedroom and i seen something run across the hall from my bathroom to my bedroom, it was like a white flowy dress. And im 16 now and i still see crazy stuff like that, and it kind of scares me because im not sure if my eyes are playing with me or if im really seeing stuff,

Ive ALWAYS wanted one, and since I was about 4 Ive always been intrested in the Dead/ Spirits.Im buying one for my 14th birthday, and I know Im a little young. But Im wondering if I can ask it about my love life. Ive been with my chldhood sweetheart since I could rember, and I want to ask it if It was realy ment to be. Okay Last night & the night before i played Ouija , Yeah People warned me before & after i played it but as usual i didnt listen. I also Didnt believe in it But wanted to see it for my own eye's ive wanted to since i could remember.
But now i can honestly say i cant get no sleep im so paranoyed im Soo soo Jumpy & i would of never thought it would be me ending up the one with the head fuck ! Im only 15 ! Last night was the scaryest night of MY LIFE seriously things moved candles went out cold shivers was sent down our spines and screaming noises were heard. I'm 15 years old and on this friday just gone, me and my two friends (olivia and nicole) had arranged to see each other.
Olivia had invited two other of her good friends over (ruby and emily), i had never met these before.
We all decided to do a ouija board, as i personally have always been fascinated by what happens.
So we set it up... Olivia placed salt in the four corners of the table, as a sort of protection? Not too sure what it was for.
So we started, she said "can you place a circle of protection around each person here" and as instinct i laughed, and we all started laughing.
She mad and told us to be quiet, and then asked "is there a spirit present"... I wasn't sure what i expected to happen, but sure enough it moved to yes. My mouth dropped and we all didn't know where to look.
As we carried on, olivia asked what is the name of this spirit, it moved around the board and spelt out the word "keith" and then moved on to "j6"... olivia said "sorry we're not sure what you mean by that" it then moved around the board and spelt out "keith" again, ruby (olivia's friend) instantly broke down crying. I looked at her and she said "that's my dad". She then said "there's no way it can be, it's all rubbish" she then for further proof, said "dad, if this is you, what was our old post code. The board moved to "s20 jql" she grabbed her mouth and started crying. i was so freaked out by it that i said "fuck off"... the glass moved to the letter "f" the to "u" then to "c" and the yeah "f". that's just one story, i don't like telling people, because i think i sound insane.

my friends and i used to make one for the fun of it n i remember sitting neer the pool n they have a dog ok (we all know dogs randoly bark when they see gosts) anyway we woud ask qs but it wojudnt move(we usedd a shotglass) n as soon as her dog started barkin we woud get answers. so weird. and i didnt belikeve it at firt so i took my fingedr off it n said to my 2 friends to ask what my mums maiden name was (they didnt know it) it spelled it out i was so freaked oiut but it was so much fun and that day was raining so we asked it to stop raining n it worked alsoi asked if my bf n i woud ever break up it said 29 ... 2 months later my bf dumped me on the 29th hmmmmmm.
Anyone who's thinking about messing around with it better think twice. I was always curious about it. I needed to see it with my own eyes to believe it. I'll try to make this short because I played it for months. The first time playing, it was me, sister, friend and brother..he just watched. I asked if anyone was there, it said YES. I asked what his name was and said it was my grandfather who had passed away ten yrs earlier. I said if you are, how did u die. He spelled out car accident which is true. My sis and I started crying. Before my grandfather left the house the day he died he forgot something at home. I asked him what that was and he answered correctly. But then I started thinking that somethings wasn't right. I asked him to spell my name, and he did. However, my grandfather did not speak or write english. I asked him to tell me his real name and to stop pretending that he's my grandfather. He said his name is 'Tete' I said why did u pretend to be my grandfather...he said I was just having fun. I'm not going to write all the questions we asked cuz that would take forever. But he answered a lot of our questions. He even told me I was going to drive a Mustang in a couple years..needless to say I was excited. I asked what color and he said orange...didn't like that lol. But I ended up with a green mustsang. He used to get pissed off a lot when we asked him a lot of questions, he'd say that we're ignoring him. sometimes he would get nasty and cuss us out and tell us to take our clothes off and eff each other. that used to piss me off, and as stupid as it sounds we used to cuss each other out. Some freaky stuff happened one night. One night my sister, brother and his gf were getting ready to leave and he spelled out..you're all going to die...I had everyone spend the night. In the middle of the night we woke up to a loud banging on my sliding glass door. We were freaking out..too scared to look out to see what it was..it finally stopped. I took the board and put it in the trunk of my car, next morning we messed around with it again. I asked where he spent the night and he answered 'the trunk of your car' He was especially attached to my sister, he called her his queen. Everytime she played she would turn pale and could barely speak or stand up. One night he got pissed at her for some reason and told her to 'go home b*tch' she coudln't stand up but her feet were moving as if she were trying to walk. It took me and my friend to get her out of the chair and on to the couch. she was moaning and her body twitched all night as she slept on my couch. I didn't know how to get rid of it, the only thing I could think of was leaving it in a closet cuz I was getting ready to move. he knew that and cussed me out. There were nights that we could not get him to say goodbye..we'd stay up for hours. He answered a lot of questions. he told us who would marry who, who would get divorced, etc..and he was right. I am Catholic and I believe in God and Jesus. I regret the day I ever touched that thing. A lot of not so good things happened in my life and I wonder if the ouija board is to blame?? DO NOT PLAY WITH IT....YOU'LL REGRET IT.

i play this ouija board before but nothing happen and the next day 3 girls came to my house and the cute.
i played this game just yesterday and everything was fine, the only scary thing that happened was the computer went on to a ouija board website when i didn't touch it, i love this game and our new friend, his name is fred and he died whe he was three, when i wasn't htere though my friends played it and the spirit spelt out 6.6 and then they said goodbye. i love htis game, but don't play it if you are not emotionally ready
I HAVENT TRIED IT BUT WHEN YOU ARE DOING IT WEAR A CROSS SO IF I DOESNT LEAVE PUT THE CROSS ON THE BORED SO THE SPIRT WILL WEAKEN AND BE EASIER TO TRAP BACK INTO THE BORED and i have serisly never played it but like all the time i feel like something is watching and followin me and even right now i feel like that and i hope that this tip will help and not make any thing bad happen

I hate this f-ing game, Mrvoodoo, HATE IT! I half-expected you to have this game available via Amazon, but was relieved that you didn't. And why do I hate it? Because bad stuff happens when you play this game, whether or not you follow your rules as before stated. My sisters and I played thing game when my oldest sis got a brand new apartment after leaving the nest. The three of us played for about two-hours, lights off and about four candles flickering. When we asked the spirit to prove he was there, my sisters then neon phone lit up and rang! Wanna hear something even crazier??? She didn't have service yet! The phone wasn't going to be connected until another four days and worst yet, it was even plugged in! We actually had to get an exorcism to get rid of that bad spirit. Nuff said. Buyer/player BEWARE!
