Love a good party
We Americans have often been thought of as excitable and impulsive by people in other parts of the world. Some have even gone so far as to label our leaders as gun toting "cowboys".
I suppose it's because we are rather unpredictable in how we react to trouble. Look at how some of us are attacking the current economic distress. Not with learned discourse and debate or with torches and pitchforks. No, in our own admirable American fashion we throw nearly 1000 tea parties stretching all across the country. Could "Tea Party" be another word for "new political party"as well?
In that vein it should also be mentioned that the idea isn't a new one, either. We have had tea parties before in Boston Harbor back in the 1770's. Also such wondrously named things as stag parties and even Bull Moose Parties. Americans just like parties,eh?
The New AmericanTea Party?
What's it all about? Some people who felt that they hadn't been consulted ( the tax paying middle class) about the governments actions of late got miffed. Some of them contacted some friends in television-Fox News and the ball got rolling. Blog posts got posted and emails flew from person to person. Friends were rang up on the phone to spread the word.In effect, it was a true grassroots movement, a sort of Boston Tea Party, Act 2.
What Miffed 'em?
It all comes down to taxes and who's got to pay them. Both now and in future. Why the worry? It's this stimulus business offered by President Obama
The American tea party protesters are concerned that the flood of new money (Fiat money) will cause super high price inflation like in the Wiemar Republic after WWI. It's true that the Federal Reserve Bank has issued lots of new money. Well, that really stirred up our tea and biscuits bunch. They feared it would create massive debt ( it does) and worry about who gets the tab when China and Saudi Arabia want their money back.
Another thing that's really pissing in the Cheerios of many of the tax paying public is earmarks. You know, Congress puts together a bill ( say, the stimulus package) and over 500 members in both Houses say"hm-mm...a little added here to get me re-elected" or " Oh, look! What a grand place to put the requisition of $100 million to study blind homosexual ants!" and before you know it there are over 8,000 Pork add-ons attached to a measure that was supposed to save our economic bacon. This is fiscal responsibility? More tea?
That's just the gist of what has millions of Americans having a little Boston Harbor Tea this week. They are angry and worried that our government has abandoned any semblance of fiscal responsibility and that the actions of our government are leading us to even greater economic disaster.
To be fair, the government should be given the chance to act and also to explain those actions along with their ramifications to the public. The problems our government is facing are enormous and complex. That understood, it is incumbent upon the government to tell the American Tea Party folk just what they will do about the runaway debt and inflation. We are one nation. We need to work as one in this hard time.
Some Things To Consider
If you are concerned about holding our government accountable for the national checkbook contact your Senators and Members of the House of Representatives about::
- Demand the passage of a federal balanced budget amendment to the Constitution
- Demand a short term complete moratorium of all new spending by government for 6 months
- remind them who they work for. The President and members on capitol hill are the servants of the people. They are no ones master.
If you, like me are concerned please take action and write, email or phone your elected officials. Our country and its future is what the American tea party is all about. Tax payers, property owners and private citizens voicing their concern. And yes, I'd love some tea.

Thanks,lovezan. I appreciate it.
Huh. I guess I was aware of the sort of concept behind their feelings and motivations, but I wasn't aware that there is an actual contemporary tea party movement going on! Great!
