Hillary the Red Hatter
Hillary the Red Hatter

Red Hat Society Diva

My husband picked Hillary for her energy and feistiness. She was pummeling her four siblings as she romped in the Humane Society cage, and at five weeks of age she easily fit into his hand.  Black with white tips on her tail and feet she was ready to conquer the world. The name of a national celebrity (whom we also considered feisty) stuck after my husband laughingly said she was just like Hillary-"the Hillary". She soon took over the household and was my husband's constant companion after his heart surgery. Everyone she met admired her audacity, and Democrat or Republican laughed at her antics. It wasn't till she was six months old that we discovered her hidden background. With her silky fur now growing to a length of 12 inches, she definitely had a secret "agenda". With in-depth study, we found that she was basically a Tibetan Terrier. It turns out that this breed was started in the 11th century to herd sheep for the Tibetan monks. It wasn't until about 50 years ago that the breed was taken abroad-out of Tibet. Hillary has dutifully herded us to and from bed every day and everywhere in between. She becomes upset if we deviate from our daily routines and lets us know with barking reminders. As a result our bedtimes have been customized and regimented to her taste and mood.

A month ago we took her to a new groomer with very bad results. An inexperienced groomer badly damaged her leg with scissors cutting it to the bone for eight inches. But, even though she is 15 years old, she has bounced back with vigor and her leg has entirely healed. (I would like to advise extreme caution in choosing a groomer since in some states there is no regulation and no recourse in case of injury).

Well, Hillary's newest venture (adventure?) is becoming a "red-hatter". We are planning meeting visits in full regalia (photo above) and she will no doubt take over-as she always does as the RED HAT DIVA!
