Our Reunion

part 15

The curtain rises onto an office setting. Marie comes onto the stage, now in street clothes, and sits down at the desk. She sorts out some papers. Then she pushes a button on the phone and says, "Miss Jacob, would you send in my first appointment now?" She released the button and Miss Jacob comes onto stage (played by a tall 5th grade girl) and said, "I'm sorry ma'am but your 9 o'clock hasn't shown up yet." Marie stands up and as she's walking towards the edge of the stage she says, "Thank you Miss Jacob. I see he's coming now." Everyone in the audience was looking around but saw no one. Marie looks at me and said, "Welcome Calvin. Would you like to come in, please?" My mouth dropped my eyes went wide and I was frantically looking for the nearest exit. I saw one close by, jumped up and started to turn towards it. Marie said, "Yes Calvin, this way please," At this point my body started rising but my arms and legs were still piston pumping like I was running from a tornado. Still running in mid air I was going backwards toward the stage. As I got past Marie my foot hit the ground and the friction of my shoe on the floor caused my feet to kick up and I dropped onto my back. I heard the audience laughing and cheering cause to them it had all been done with wires. They can take it from me, there are no wires.

When my eyes got focus back, I saw Marie. She was holding my hand and rubbing my head with a cool rag. I asked her, "When did you change?" She looked deep into my eyes and said, "Cal you just got here. And when did I change what?" I said, "Your clothes. Those aren't the one you had on a moment ago for the school play." Marie looks at me real funny and said, "Play? Cal do you know where you are?" I said, "Yes. I'm on stage with you at your nephews school play." Marie looked at the people around us and then said, "Cal, this is the first time I've seen you in forty years. I wouldn't mind going to a play but you came through the doorway and tripped. You were only out for a few minutes. We're on the floor of the restaurant. When you can get up, then I want to hear this. Oh, by the way, Hello Cal. Long time no see!" She said as she gave my hand a squeeze.
