Never an account with them again!!

We have both banked through this particular bank for years...even had a loan through them. So why have we decided to look for another bank to use? What could be so bad? Talk about a scam to get Federal Funding by using people who pay off loans early!!

Taking the Federal Gain

My husband (before we met), purchased a vehicle and got a loan from this financial institution that we will refer to as The Bank, in 1997. He made current payments on his loan, and in 2003, decided to pay off the rest of his loan for slightly over $5000. He took the cash in, received a letter stating that his balance was $0, and received the title in the mail around a week later. He has since then had no further dealings with this bank, as he also banked somewhere else. I have been a member of The Bank for around 20 years, my first saving account was opened there as a child. They have screwed me more than once, but since I am such a loyal customer, for some reason I stay there, as they usually fix their mistakes. Now, after the fiasco of my first marriage, I have allowed no one on my account, to watch my own personal credit. I am finally comfortable enough to allow my current husband onto my account. So, hand in hand, we walk into a bank to make this big step together...only to be told by The Bank, that he has a loan that isn't paid off. Instantly doubt floods into my mind...is he lying to me? did he not own his truck before we sold it? is it a bad idea to put him on my account?? Well, after three days, phone calls to branches of The Bank in California, Washington, Utah, Alaska, and Oregon...we finally discover that the amount on the open loan (which prevented him from being added to my account) is the amount of money he would have paid in interest had he paid off his loan on the payment schedule. Not only does he not owe this money to the bank, no one does. Instead, this is part of millions of dollars of fees like this that The Bank takes to the Federal Government every year to get funding. So now, unless we pay legal fees to get this taken off, there is apparently nothing we can do about it. And nothing the bank will do without a court order. So, now, after twenty years of loyal service...I will be researching banks to find where to take my business. Any thoughts on your bank and why they are the place to be would be greatly appreciated!
