Many home owners are starting to realise the value of incorporating an outdoor bar facility into their entertainment areas. We know that a few drinks can liven up even the dullest of parties so to have a bar close by can be a major plus. It could make your spot a favourite destination for your friends!

It’s all good having your guests sitting around your patio set or lazing about on lounger chairs during a barbeque. But you’ll still have to go to the kitchen and pour the drinks, bring it out on a tray and then take them back again. You’ll still have to get out all your glasses beforehand and lay them out beforehand. But there’s an easier way. Purchase outdoor patio bar furniture!

Having an outdoor bar right where everybody is located is a sure way to reduce your workload while at the same time ensuring that everybody is kept happy, with the fate of their drinks in their own hands. Guests will be able to find their own glasses and pour their own drinks at will, which will surely lead to a better experience.

This is especially great when you have a swimming pool. It’s often a drag to have to run into the house to get drinks, but with an outdoor bar everything is right there. Enjoy some fun in the sun without having to dry off or put on your flip-flops.

Outdoor patio bar furniture is commonly made from hard wood like teak, which means it will be weather and water resistant with a pretty finishing touch. You can find simple bar tables with storage cabinets or complete bar sets with stools or chairs to match.

One of your best buys could even be a portable outdoor bar set. You can find these bar tops on wheels similar to a wheel barrow, but made from aluminium, meaning they are light but will never rust. They are great to wheel around and place wherever you need them, but are quite limited in that there is not much storage space. They are more to provide a desk from which to serve drinks.

The best reason to get outdoor patio bar furniture would be to compliment already-existing outdoor furniture or barbeque and swimming areas. You won’t regret it as it also means you won’t have to do any cleaning up in your house, everything can take place outside.

There are many ways and different materials that you can use to build your own outdoor bar furniture from scratch. The easiest way to do this is to start with either simple 2 x 4s from your local lumber yard or with PVC pipes.

Using common dimentional lumber is probably the easiest for most folks. Key design aspects are to make sure that there is a wide foot for keeping the whole unit stable and to make sure things are supported frequently enough so the bar top is supported well. Add a little cross bracking to prevent sideways tilting or learning and you should be fine. Start with building a strong rectangular box forthe base and you should be in great shape. Lots of clear poly on the bar top adds depth and shine that make almost any wood surface look cool.

The other variation that I have seen for a DIY outdoor bar roject used PVC pipes and elbows. This unit wasn't as strong as wood ones, but it did fine as a light duty location to prepare food and drinks from. One of the key factors for its success was that it had a very light plastic top. I would reccomend finding a set of good plans specifically made for using PVC pipe before going down this path.
