In this electronic age we are living in, it is often hard to get our kids to play outside. After all, wooden climbing frames! Playing outdoor games is becoming a rarity and with so with so much concern about the lack of childhood activity and the increase childhhod obesity it's something to take very seriously. However with so many great outdoor toys available it's never been easier to motivate kids to be active and play outside. Here are a few ideas to get your kids to spend more time outside.
Invest in a sandpit! Sandpits can provide hours of fun for kids of all ages. Kids can build entire universes in the sand. It is also a great way to get kids of different ages to play together. After all, it doesn't matter how old a child is, they know how to ‘play pretend' and a sandpit is a great place to do just that. A sandpit needn't destroy the look of your garden either with a great selection of stylish wooden sandpits now available that are far more attractive than the colourful plastic 'shell' designs of the past.
Water toys are always popular when the sun is out. With a couple of water pistols you can have your kids tearing around the garden for hours soaking each other to the skin and more importantly getting a great cardiovascular workout to boot.
If you have a larger budget you can invest in a quality wooden climbing frame. These usually come with a couple of swings and a slide, though there are more elaborate models that have club houses and decked forts. Kids can run and play and get all of their exercise without leaving the safety of the back garden. They aren't cheap but you will do well to spend as much as you can afford as they will be used by a child for around 10 years so you need to ensure the timber is top quality cedar or redwood and the fittings are built to last. Many cedar climbing frames come with a wooden climbing framegives you great peace of mind.
Of course the kids might just be content to run around playing a make believe game that you haven't ever heard of. That is the wonderful part of childhood, the imagination is still readily available and eager to entertain. This type of play is also great for cognitive development allowing kids to experience new scenarios from the safety of the back garden.
There are a number of games you can play outside, the trick is to get the kids out there in the first place. Usually once a child is outside, they will find numerous ways to amuse themselves. Of course, the more outdoor toys you have waiting in the wings, the happier your children will be. After all, everybody needs help getting started sometimes.
