I sit here at my computer and feel completely disgusted. I received the following email (that was relegated immediately to SPAM, thankfully) this afternoon and I am horrified:

Good day,I am Mr. Xiong Lee a transfer supervisor operations in
investment section in Bank of China Ltd, Hong Kong.
I have a obscured business suggestion for you, Before the
China quack our client a foreigner (Mr. Robert Williams),
who was in China a full time business man made a numbered
fixed deposit for 12 calendar months, with a value of Tweenty
Five Millions Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars
(US$25,000,000.00) only in my branch.
It's so sad that our client Mr. Robert Williams and his familys
deid during the earth quack blast that hit their home.
My investigations revealed no survival or NEXT OF KIN will
ever come forward to claim his funds as they are all dead.
Against this backdrop, my suggestion to you is that I will like you
as a foreigner to stand as the next of kin to Mr. Robert Williams
so that you will be able to receive his funds. I will send you more
details as soon as I receive your response. You don't need to be
afraid of this deal, as everything is completely 100% risk free.
Note that I got your contact in courtesy of Business Online network via
Internet for a reliable person for this urgent business transaction,
Which I like to acquire with your help and you will be compensated
adequately as your commission 40% and 60% for me.
I kept this information (SECRET) confidential within my jurisdiction to
enable us submit claims applications with your details as the right
full owner (Next of kin) of this funds and transfer this fund through
offshore-online account which you will open with one of our Telex type
bank (good relationship) so that it won't attract the international
monetary bodies, as the transfer will be seen as an in-house transfer.
If you are interested please reply instantly with your info below, and
I shall provide you with the details of this transaction.
Your Fulll Name:
Your Country:
Your Phone Number:
Your Age and Sex:
Your Occupation:
Please contact me with my Private e-mail mr.xionglee@gmail.com with
his information for next step.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Xiong Lee

I am sickened by this shameless act of profiteering done by internet scammers looking to make a quick buck on unsuspecting individuals. I despise those emails that appear from time to time saying you've won the British lottery (even though didn't buy a ticket) or have been chosen for a $1,000 shopping spree from some company that turns up nothing when you google it. But this, this is downright immoral.

Doesn't whoever sent this email realize the devastation that earthquake caused in China? Don't they see the pictures of the displaced children, the destroyed villages, the bodies piling up? Don't they know that the death count is approaching 50,000 people, and that five million Chinese are now homeless?

There are so many things wrong with this email, aside from heinous spelling and fictional businesses, that it is hard to know where to begin (who puts "mr." in their email address anyway?). I don't have much to say that I would be willing to publish regarding what I am thinking right now about Mr. Xiong Lee (probably another fictional character) and his reprehensible use of tragedy to line his pockets. Let's just say it is full of expletives. I needed other people to see this, I needed to post this so that others would feel as outraged as I do.

As much as I hate them, please, bring on the fake lottery win notifications, or bank errors in my favor to banks that aren't real. Any other low-crafted coward money-thieving scheme is better than an email that tries to rob me by first offering me a dead family's fortune.

If anyone knows somewhere I can report this email, please let me know. This is too sleazy to be legal...I hope.

Thanks for informing everyone with your hubpage.

This just goes to show that scum will take advantage of people in any situation, but I guess the sort of person who would do that has no conscience anyway.

Someone here is bound to know who you can notify.
