Five down, 98 to go.

First the news broke about Barry Bonds, then came Alex Rodriguez, then Sammy Sosa. Now you can add Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz and his former team mate and current LA Dodger Manny Ramirez to the list of 103 Major League Baseball stars who have reportedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PED) in 2003.

The New York Times is citing lawyers who have a knowledge of the test results that both Ortiz and Ramirez tested positive. The lawyers would not say what they tested positive for, however. This is the first link of Ortiz to PEDs and the second for Ramirez, who served a 50-game suspension earlier this year for taking PEDs.

Neither player commented on the allegations today, but Ortiz was singing a different tune in February when Alex Rodriguez's name came out. Ortiz said then if any player tested positive he should be suspended for an entire season.

When Ramirez returned this year from his suspension he did say that he had passed "about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons" which would rule out the 2003 test.

With no comment from either player, makes you wonder if Ortiz will take a different outlook now that his name is tainted by the results. If you thought Rodriguez should be suspended for a year, I gotta think it would only be fair if you were suspended a year as well.

The two would not be suspended under the current PED guidelines Major League Baseball has in place because the test was administered before they went into effect. The tandem helped lead the Red Sox to the team's first World Series in 86 years back in 2004 and another title in 2007.
