Outsourcing Web Content

Outsourcing your writing and/or any other aspects of your home based business can be a great investment or it can backfire in your face. It all comes down to the quality of the content writers you hire during the outsourcing process, as well as how compatible they are with you and how well they understand your instructions and requirements.

A good freelancer is responsive to the needs and desires of the person who is outsourcing work to them. If you use a freelance writer once or twice who does not respond to your requests for revisions, or who does not meet the deadlines that you establish for them contractually, you will probably not want to use that particular writer again.

Outsourcing Compatibility

On the flip side, if you discover one or more freelance writers who always submit their work in a timely fashion and who do not hesitate to incorporate all of your requested revisions, you will probably want to use such freelancers again and again and again as part of your overall outsourcing plan.

What does it mean to be compatible with a freelance writer? Well, when you outsource some or all of the writing work you need done for your websites and other projects, you need to work with one or more writers who grasp what your overall vision is for your business and who are “on the same page” with you in terms of their writing style.

Finding Quality Writers for Outsourcing

For instance, if you like your websites to have a style that is informal and conversational, you will not want to outsource your writing work to writers who tend to write in a highly technical or formal fashion. That would be a total mismatch. To find out how a particular writer writes, you will want to let them know the writing style you are seeking and then see if they have any work in their writing portfolio that matches the style you desire.

Speaking of writing portfolios, when you are thinking about outsourcing, don’t hesitate to ask writers you are thinking about hiring to provide you with several writing samples that showcase all of their various writing talents. Most freelance writers will be happy to send you samples of their work because they want to do everything in their power to get hired by you and they know that you are not likely to hire them without first seeing how they write.

Of course, outsourcing sometimes involves a certain degree of trial and error. That is, you might hire a writer who initially seems to get your vision and the writing style that you are seeking, and then that writer might end up flaking out on you by generating work that is sub par, or by not meeting your deadlines or by not writing in the style that you require and that was agreed upon by both of you in the beginning.

If this happens, you might be back at square one. But that’s okay. Don’t give up on outsourcing if one or two freelance writers don’t work out at the beginning of your outsourcing effort. It may take some time, but eventually you will probably be able to find one or more freelancers with whom you are compatible. Something to keep in mind when outsourcing writing is the fact that even though someone else is writing for you, it will still be necessary for you to review, edit and revise their work according to your standards and requirements.
