Over The Counter Nail Fungus Treatments
73Many over the counter nail fungus treatments exist, but not all of them work the same for everyone. Each person's nail fungus problems are diferent - some are more or less severe than others.
Consistency of use is very important when using over the counter nail treatments too. Most of them need to be used at least once or twice each day until the nail fungus is fully gone, otherwise the fungus could flare up again.
When using over the counter nail fungus treatments, it may take quite some time to see a full resolution to the problem. Depending on how well your fungus problems respond to the treatments you've selected, and how diligently you treat the problem, it could take from several months to a full year before the fungus is fully gone.
Some people choose over the counter nail fungus treatment medications that aren't specifically made for use on nail fungus too. Monostat-7 for instance, is an over the counter treatment for vaginal yeast infections in women. Nail fungus though, is a yeast infection as well, and many people have reported great success when using monostat on their nail fungus infections daily.
Another unconventional over the counter product that many people use to treat nail fungus is Listerine mouthwash. This is a powerful antiseptic that hundreds of people have reported having success with when using it to treat nail fungus problems. They simply rubbed the Listerine all over the infected nails a couple of times each day, or they soaked the infected nails in the mouthwash for 20-30 minutes twice a day until the fungus was completely gone.
Yet another strange but true story: Hundreds of people use Vicks Vapor Rub as an over the counter nail fungus treatment. They simply rub vicks on their infected nails a few times each day until the fungus is cleared up.
There are many herbal over the counter treatments available that can cure nail fungus problems too. Some herbal remedies are taken internally - meaning you take a supplement pill once or twice each day - while others are applied to the affected nails as a topical treatment.
Garlic is an herb that can be used both internally and externally for treating nail fungus. This is a powerful antibiotic herb with antifungal properties, and it works quite well in killing the nail fungus.
Tea tree oil has become a very popular over the counter nail fungus treatment. This is an herb in oil form that can be purchased in almost any major health food store or chain pharmacy. Simply put a few drops on your infected nails once or twice each day, and rub it around and under the nails. Do this every day until the you see no further traces of the nail fungus.
Most over the counter nail fungus treatments will be more effective if you care for your nails well. Remove any debris built up under or around the nail, and remove as much dead skin from under and around the nail too. Scratching the top of your nail a bit using a nail file will also help. Doing these steps before each treatment will help the medicine be able to penetrate to where the fungus actually live, and thus start the healing process that much faster.
