Thanks for a great hub. My own contribution here. I have issue with the words self esteem. I have started using the words self worth instead. I have found over the years that self esteem is typically used in the context of one's accomplishments. Okay, now, stand up there and get a hit, and that will increase your self esteem. Get out there and run that mile, and your self esteem will sore. Lose those ten or hundred pounds and that will do wonders for your self esteem. It's all about external accomplishment and not what you referred to when you wrote that we are not born with low self esteem. I believe, you can see it in an infant's face and body, we are born with an innate sense of self worth. We are valuable, precious, worthwhile, not because of anything we accomplish or will accomplish, but just because. That deep sense of worth seems to have disappeared off the face of our society. We value people based on their contribution, so old people, criminals, etc. are expendable. So anywho, I could go on and on here. When we are very little, that sense of worth is enhanced by an abundance of sheer raw feel good experiences, and as we continue to grow old, that sense of worse is enhanced by praciticing what you wrote about. There is also an important spiritual component as well, and I think we all yearn for something beyond ourselves and I think that is innate as well. I happen to believe there is a God beyond us and that is where ultimately our self worth points us.
