Overcoming Panic Attacks
I want you to know that there IS hope!
I know it can seem hopeless and futile, but overcoming panic attacks IS possible!
A common statistic is that about 5% of the world population will experience panic attacks at one point or another in their lifetimes. Panic attacks range from mild to very intense, where the sufferer might actually fear death, or other bodily harm from the attack. I hope to share with you some ideas and facts that have helped many people in their battle with panic attacks over the years. The
first thing that we have to look at is the intense panic attacks
symptoms that come with panic attacks. It can feel absolutely
terrifying, and in the extreme cases can feel like you are having a
heart attack or that you are about to die! So the first thing we have
to realize is that the fact about panic attacks symptoms is that they cannot hurt you!
Sure they *feel* like they are about to burst your heart, or cripple
your body, but the fact is that panic attacks are physically harmless.
This is an absolute fact, and it's an important thing to
remember. Knowing this, the next time you experience the beginning of a
panic attack, you can calmly remind yourself, "These are only
sensations, they do not have the power to actually hurt me." By
realizing this, you can actually cut down the severity of an upcoming
panic attack, because you won't give in to your fear, and you will
reduce the amount of stress and anxiety you will experience. Less
stress and anxiety means that overcoming panic attacks will become easier.
The second thing to realize about panic attacks and general anxiety, is
that your body is responding to thoughts or perceptions about the
situation. It is not that you are in any *real* danger, it is that for
whatever reason, your mind has found a trigger in the situation which
you are in, and your anxiety levels increase due to that trigger.
Following that logic, a key thing to learn, is how controlling your
thoughts and anxiety levels throughout your day-to-day life, can make overcoming panic attacks
much easier. There are many self-help techniques, which are backed by
scientific evidence and research that are specifically designed to help
you calm your mind, and reduce the chances that you will have another
panic attack. Things like Affirmations, Tai Chi, Yoga, and Hypnosis,
are very effective in helping you drastically reduce your anxiety
levels and with that reduce the likliness of you having another panic
attack.
