Oxnard Dog Park

Oxnard is the home of a new dog park; something that has been needed for a long time. The dog park itself is in Oxnard College Park, which is located next to Oxnard College and across from Channel IslandsHigh School. The park is located at 3250 South Rose Avenue; if you are coming from Gonzales Rd. turn left at Raiders Way; make another left turn and then continue all the way down until you see the dog park on your left side.

The dog park is separated into two individual parks; one for small dogs and one for large dogs. The park itself is not very wide, but it is pretty long. The park offers many agility obstacles for your dog including: jumps, tunnels, A-frames, and tire jumps. Both the large and small dog parks have equipment that is meant for their size.

Each park is designated into two sections; one part is dirt and the other is grass. They do periodically water both sections; so be aware that you dog may end up muddy if you go during those watering times. There is a lot of shade offered. Near the entrance there is a covered area with a couple of picnic tables that you can sit at. There are also benches along the perimeter of the park; some have shade and others don’t.

There are two doggie waste disposal posts; one at the far end of the park and the other in the middle of the park. There is a water fountain with a built in doggie fountain. This particular dog fountain is nice, because instead of having the dog watering button be near the top of main water fountain it is on the bottom; so you can just use your foot to push it.

As an added bonus, this park is equipped with a self-serve dog wash center. Each bath costs $3 and you get your choice of shampoo, water, and blow dry. One drawback is that after you get your pup all nice and clean you have to walk him back through the park to leave.

Dog owners need to be responsible when taking their dog to a dog park; you are liable for whatever your dog does. Your dog must be sociable or at the very least tolerate other dogs otherwise you really have no business in the dog park. All dogs must be current on their vaccinations and license. You must be able to control your dog at all times. Dogs are not allowed to be off-leash outside of the DogPark.
