Material Kitchen Revolution

While the Oxo Silicone Basting and Pastry Brush may not be responsible for heads rolling across a royal guillotine or the upheaval of the ruling tsars of Russia, revolutions, like many things, are relative terms. Within the realm of the culinary cosmos, the Oxo Silicone Pastry and Basting Brush is cause for its own limited revolution among other brushes of its ilk. The secret of the Oxo Silicone Basting and Pastry Brush (if there is one) lies in the bristles of the brush itself, which are made from natural boar hair. (The boar was not aware at the time or otherwise one might have to contemplate still another type of revolution.)

The natural boar hair transforms the Oxo Silicone Pastry and Basting Brush into a natural bristle brush with the added conveniences of heat and odor resistance and ease of maintenance. (The retention of odors has been a big complaint among owners of pastry and basting brushes in the past, and the Oxo Silicone Basting and Pastry Brush comes very clean, so to speak, in this department.) The Oxo Silicone Pastry and Basting Brush is perfect for applying and transferring liquids, and the silicone makes them dishwasher-safe and heat-resistant. This brush is new and it is designed with a paddle and bristles, which duplicate the performance of traditional brushes.

The silicone renders the Oxo Pastry and Basting Brush a very versatile kitchen tool. The center bristles have gaps especially designed to retain liquid as you transfer sauce from bowl to work surface, while the outer tapered bristles are for basting with ease. Bristles will never clump, frizz or retain odors (and that’s more than most of us can say about certain people whose names we would rather not disclose).

Unfortunately, to date at least, the Oxo Silicone Pastry and Basting Brush is not available in Canada. If you live anywhere else, however, go for it!
