What is the registry? The registry is the heart and soul of windows-based operating system.

The registry is also a database or it can be called a centralized repository that contains the configuration data that makes the operating system work, including information and settings for all the hardware, software, users and preferences of your PC system.

With an excellent registry cleaner you can easily repair registry errors, clean up junk files, repair the redundant or obsolete information and files in your windows registry and hard disk. It can repair application failures caused by ActiveX or "Unable to load", .dll errors, system crashing or freezing.

It's really easy, however the first important step is to make a backup of your registry system, it's always an important precaution when performing any sort of PC maintenance.

The registry cleaner that I recommend will automatically do that for you. But if you choose to do it manually here are a few steps by Microsoft Support on how to create a restore point of your registry. The step below is for Windows XP, please consult with Microsoft Support for Windows Vista or Windows 98.

Windows XP

Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then click OK.

On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next.

On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point and then click Create

After the restore point has been created, click Close.

Note If System Restore is turned off, you receive a message that asks whether you want to turn on System Restore now. Click Yes. Then, in the System Properties dialog box, click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box, click OK, and then repeat this step.

That's it, now you have a copy of your registry restore point just in case something should go wrong.

Once you have a backup of your registry you can scan your computer to easily repair your registry errors, clean up junk files, erase IE history to protect your privacy, and block ActiveX to avoid adware, malware, spyware and any malicious software.
