PCI Compliance and Other Ways to Ensure Your Security

If you have read any of my previous articles, you know how passionate I am about my online safety and love to share all that I have discovered. I have mainly focused my research on PCI Scanning and will continue to say that the best way to protect your online business or yourself while online shopping is through PCI Compliance, but I would also like to share some other ways to protect yourself while shopping online.

  1. Do some research on security. Although I have done a lot of the research for you with this article, I would still recommend that you do some research on your own and find out as much as you can about website security. It would definitely go a long way in protecting yourself when shopping online.
  2. Look at the site that you’re buying from. If it’s not well put together, and doesn’t look very good, then you can only guess that they put the same type of effort into their security practices as well. Also, read over their security and privacy policies and like I’ve said before never purchase anything on a site that is not PCI Compliant.
  3. Don’t use your main money account. Try to use a credit card if at all possible so that there will be an extra layer of protection if a hacker does get a hold of your information.
  4. Keep records of all your purchases. Make sure you print out a copy of all your receipts so that you will have the proof that you need if it comes down to that.
  5. Remember that email is not a secure form of communication. Never send any of your sensitive information over email since email can easily be hacked into. If an online store asks you to send some personal information over internet, it is better to just find the product that your buying on a different site rather than taking the risk.
