PEACE AT LAST

SWAN SONG

Rid at last of the beast that has caused so much carnage in so little time Gaia will heal.

Though life will still be taken that life may continue, never again will it be done with malice or hate.

Nor will death be born of greed, lust or envy.

No ideology, no arrogant certainty of righteousness will ever again bring needless pain, suffering and death to those who’s chosen path is not the same.

Pain, suffering and death will remain but only in the service of life, without animosity, prejudice or enmity.

Life and death will once again be equal partners.

With the passing of the only creature ever to favor death over life, the balance will be restored.

No longer will death be a commodity to be sold for profit. Once again, it will be the price for the continuation of life, an even trade.

Peace at last.

Go ahead people, do your worst.

Is this hub about the end of civilization as we know it?

It appears so !

Wow! That was fast someonewhoknows. I just put this up about 30 seconds ago!

The inscription on the tombstone reads"

HERE LIES HUMANITY WHO WOULD NOT LIVE IN PEACE AND THEREFORE NO LONGER LIVES AT ALL.

It's about the extinction of the human race. Peace at last.

When any species gets out of control a disease or a disaster comes along and thins out the herd. I think we're in for one. Every time someone makes jokes about swine flu I think to myself, yeah that's real funny. Keep laughing while you can. The earth doesn't need us, we need it, and there isn't really any time left. So I'd say you're right, we're pretty much screwed. No big loss in the grand scheme of things.

Hi pgrundy. It's becoming almost comfortable to just resign myself to it.

No one seems anxious or willing to do anything about it so why should I let it eat at me?

It,reminds me of a new testament saying "the meek shall inherit the earth."

I have always wondered what that really means.

#1,could mean that those who are pure of heart will still be here.

#2. could mean ,that those who are too meek ,or lack courage will not still be here.

According to my Merriam-Web-ster dictionary ,there are two meanings

1. characterized by patience and long suffering

2. deficient in spirit and courage

We have to be one or the other.

If it's enough for you bluebird, then I'm happy for you.

Please don't presume that it must be that simplistic for everyone.

I wish you nothing but happiness in your relationship with your god.

All I ask from you is that you not demand my subjugation to it as well.

I prefer definition #1 myself:

1. characterized by patience and long suffering

CWB,

I too, long and work for peace at last. I appreciate your concern for the USA, as I am very much concerned as well and the way it is headed. It is on the edge of disaster, no doubt. I also appreciate your wisdom in seeing things as they are and not turning a blind eye to the mess America is in. You have a good heart, I can tell, and I thank you for using your talent and writing to help wake America up. Every voice crying in the wilderness brings light! Please note my hub on America.

All I'm saying is the peacemakers will eat the fruit of their own ways as will the warmongers. Everyone will reap what they have sown. Justice will be served and will prevail! - peace will come at last. We just have to keep believing and never give up until then - believing in a cause bigger than ourselves. Humanity in general is a pitiful lot and desparately needs something greater than itself to believe in, it gives life zest, hope and meaning and something to work towards.

May you be encouraged to continue on. I salute you.

P.S. Very good quotes at the end of your hub. Here's another one I like:

"It is a wise child that knows its own father, and an unusual one that unreservedly approves of him." ~Mark Twain

ColdWarBaby  says:

Thanks bluebird.

My concern is certainly not limited to this country. In fact, it's amerika that is largely responsible for the mess we're in.

But of course, I have compassion for the common people here. It's not entirely our fault.

I'm not sure what you mean by "quotes" but nothing in the hub was written by anyone but me so I wasn't quoting anyone if that's what you meant. If not, I just misunderstood.

pgrundy  says:

CWB--What do you think people should be doing? It's a serious question. I mean, I write letters to my Congresspersons and get back form letters saying "Oh yes we definitely give a shit," when it is obvious they do not. I write hubs about history to show that the free market doesn't fix everything and the gold standard created as many problems as fiat money and people come and tell me I'm an idiot. I don't think the American people are ready to look at the truth--I'd say that'll come mid to late 2010, and then we'll have violence. Congress strikes me as almost completely worthless.

agvulpes profile image

agvulpes  says:

Pam you ask CWB what he thinks people should be doing.

I do not profess to have an answer for your country but as CWB has often pointed out this is not just USA problem it is the whole world that is at stake. So we cannot allow people like CWB and yourself to burn out , and I offer this  comment for your perusal.

Here's an example of what people (ordinary people) have done in Australia.

They have been standing in Elections as Independents (real ones) and because the public is disillusioned with our two major parties the good ones are getting elected. Enough have been elected now so that in the Senate they carry enough weight to hold a balance of power. This has been used on a number of occasions.

This is not accomplished overnight and I believe Evolution is preferable to Revolution.

agvulpes , I take it a conspiracy among the people to take control of their own government is what your speaking about.I find it interestiing that the definition of the word  conspire  is "to plan secretly an unlawful act".I'm not sure where that definition came from but it seems in greek to mean to breathe together which everyone does everyday, illegal or not.Why the connection to unlawful activity is a mystery to me.unless you add the words to the word conspire itself. Then there are inoccuious references to the word between friends when refering to a secret, but the secret isn't neccessarily evil ,or unlawful.

In that case perhaps the word "conspicious" is a more appropreate term to use."Attracting attention" "Noticable"  "remarkable" "Outstanding" There is not much difference in spelling between conspiracy and conspicuious

Unfortunately the people in power who NEED to read this are blissfully working for the very end you speak of, my friend ColdWarBaby. Even outside the U.S. there are people who think it is better to keep up the destructive, wasteful, greedy path we are on rather than to learn to live simply.

I am so proud of my son who has dedicated his life to living simply, in harmony with the Earth. Together we make plans to live one day on my in-laws land and grow all our own food. Right now we do grow potato and other vegetable crops which we use all year long. I don't eat much meat but we do have sheep and a woman in the village spins the wool into yarn for us. Our blankets are made of home-spun and are warm and soft.

I know our little effort will not reverse the dire situation of the world, but I am pleased to be doing something besides just complaining, which I am most capable of doing!

I saw an article that someone in New Mexico had built a new home from those shipping containers ships carry their cargo in. Part of the home was underground and provided naturally cool and/or warm air, depending on the season. what a neat idea! Still the cargo containers have become just another sign that we use too much and recycle too little.

Here in Europe there are kiosks where people can drop off paper, glass, etc. for recycling. we have limited resources so it's a bigger part of our lives these days. Now we just need to get off the gasoline drug! Solar and wind power are becoming a parger part of our future here in Spain. One of our companies has built wind power plants in the U.S. Slowly, my friend, slowly, maybe as awareness grows and liesures become dearer people will FINALLY wake up!

pgrundy  says:

Ag, I hear you--I am all for independent candidates and have voted for them. I also give money to campaigns and to organizations I know are good and help effect real change, even though I can't afford it, not really, and I' ve volunteered for campaigns--something I swore I'd never do--and taken eggs on my car and milkshakes thrown at my house. But here in the U.S. it's kind of like Ivan says--there are so many loud voices supporting all the bad stuff that it feels totally futile. I mean, we let GEORGE BUSH in. We did. And even now we've got these wack-job Libertarians saying "Every man for himself!" as the ship goes down. Well, they will get their wish but it won't be the utopia they imagine. In the meantime, I am indeed discouraged politically, but not personally. I think nature finds a way, but it's not always a nice way.

That’s the big question isn’t it pgrundy?

At this point, I’m not sure there’s anything we can do.

As you suggest, and I’m afraid I agree, the ultimate response will be violence. Just some of the exchanges that take place here on HubPages and elsewhere on the net make it clear there’s still too much divisiveness among people to allow for coherent action to be expected.

None of the NGOs seems able to get a really substantial portion of the populace to move together on any specific issue. Sometimes I think that’s part of the problem. Seems like everyone has their own pet issue they want to focus on instead of addressing the overall problem of a completely dysfunctional, wholly owned non-government.

You want to know what I would do if I could get people to listen and organize?

I’d like every adult in the country to stop working, shopping, traveling and consuming simultaneously, for one week. At the end of that week, I’d like everyone, a couple hundred million, to converge on Washington DC to demand that the government do its job or step down so the people could choose new representatives that would. It's almost July and Independence Day would be perfect.

I’d ask everyone to be prepared to camp in the streets of the capitol until our demands were met. What would those demands be?

First, the Federal Reserve must be taken back by the people and become part of the government, which must resume the printing, issuing and control of all currency as was done during the period when the colonies were actually prospering and during the Lincoln era.

Lincoln was killed because of his plans to keep the control of the economy out of private hands.

The banking system must be nationalized.

Single payer healthcare is absolutely necessary.

Roosevelt TOLD the auto industry that they MUST transform their production lines to serve the war effort. They made it happen in short order.

We’re constantly being hammered with this crap about the “global war on terror”. Bush even went so far as to declare at one point that WWIII had already begun.

OK, fine. Is it a war global war or isn’t it?

Obama, go to Detroit and TELL them, don’t ask, to start cranking out the electric cars NOW. We need them to break our dependency on the countries that produce all those horrible terrorists who, even now, are skulking behind every telephone pole in amerika!

We’ve had the technology for thirty years or more.

There’s quite a list I could put together but this is supposed to be just a response to a comment, not another hub.

The problem is it would take the united effort of the vast majority of the people to make this happen. They would be required to act in concert, with total commitment and be prepared for some very unpleasant moments.

Personally, if I knew that two hundred million people were going to be there, I’d leave for DC tomorrow and I’d have a list ready for presentation at the White House.

Unfortunately, many people wouldn’t agree to my list or any other for that matter. So, instead of uniting in a common cause, we’ll spend the next few years bickering online until some of the radical “militia” groups are worked up enough to take their automatic assault rifles to DC and start shooting up the place.

You can paint the rest of that picture for yourself.

If, come mid-terms, we could find enough third party candidates to replace everyone in congress that might help. Of course, they would all have to be determined to take actions that would result in real change, like that we were promised by Mr. Obama. What do you suppose are the chances of that happening?

The only thing that will bring about the changes that are needed to salvage the country now is revolution. My little daydream of the peaceful invasion of Washington by the people of America is the only way I can imagine it happening without widespread violence and bloodshed on an appalling scale. That would probably result in vast numbers of citizens being imprisoned in FEMA concentration camps and the immediate transition to an undisguised police state.

So, that's it. I'm calling for a general strike for the last week of June. No shopping, no traveling no work. At the end of that week, everyone head to DC so we'll all be there by the fourth. Then we take back our country.

How hard could it be?

"I’d like every adult in the country to stop working, shopping, traveling and consuming simultaneously, for one week."

I'm for that. I would go a step further and say, anyone with unsecured credit, stop paying on it now. Just stop. Imagine the effect if EVERYONE did that?

Gary Anderson (aka bgamall at Hub Pages) has set up several personal websites calling for people to default en masse in protest. Here is a link that lists all of his sites:

http://unhub.com/bgamall

I think it's a good idea.

I also think that, while people are still well fed enough to waste time acting like dicks on the internet to no good purpose, by mid 2010 the situation will be very different and your idea will find broad support.

Now you've got me thinking. That's always dangerous.

Unfortunately I believe you are right, ColdWarBaby, that time is not an ally in this case. maybe it's time for the cockroaches to rule the earth. One has to wonder at how they will interpret our sudden dissapearance? Would they actually be able to comprehend how a species could so happily dance down the road to ultimate destruction?

"Merrily we go along, with Nixon at the lead!" (1960's jingle for "Honest Dick" Nixon. Which is to say I guess he was honestly a dick, right?)

Compared to some of the good-old-boys we've had to cope with lately, Tricky Dick was a boyscout.

Did you hear the latest Nixon tapes, where he had the FBI tapping Kissinger's phone? Cheney is probably seeking ways to tap our minds so he can hear what we think, and then toss us into Guantanamo, pre-arresting us as terrorists before the act, as it were. Preventative arrest. Seems Obama is doing the same, though, isn't he? Rachel Maddow had something about that I saw on her Internet feed.

ColdWarBaby profile image

ColdWarBaby  says:

Minority Report?

Ivan the Terrible profile image

Ivan the Terrible  says:

Yes, exactly like that! Pre-arresting people who are thought to be going to but who have not yet committed any crime.

The people in Guantanamo are either prisoners of war, subject to the Geneva Conventions, or they are not, and if not, they need to be charged and tried, not left to rot forever. If that is what America has come to then why did America try NAZI war criminals? Their rationale was that the people they imprisoned and killed were enemies of the state. So where's the difference in intent here?

ColdWarBaby profile image

ColdWarBaby  says:

Different day, same shit.

Everything is so far out of control that I'm really feeling quite nihilistic.

Every major "advance" in the evolution of life on Earth has come at the cost of a massive extinction event. We are now entering such a phase. As far as I can tell, we're the only species that has caused such an event through its own ignorance and avarice.

We can pull technological rabbits out of our scientific magicians hat until we make pigs fly and we can pray to our mythological, invisible master in the sky until shit doesn't stink.

If we don't learn to obey the laws of nature we will be eliminated.
