Two weeks later would be the first time I ever got smacked in the freaking face by my mom. Why? Because this same crusty commissioner Giamanti DIED and I actually made the mistake of taking it like a Reds victory and cheering.

See, Giamanti, nearly topping the list of 20th century's biggest douches, was a baseball commissioner, who was also an "intellectual". Some in his circle must have construed these as conflicting, like a college graduate who sweeps chimneys. Whatever happened, the late Bartlett Giamanti felt like Major League Baseball was juvenile. And so he would employ these Shakespearean type prophecies and sayings and lessons every time he spoke about the fairness of the game, why we have to come down on the cokehead Mets and throw out Steve Howe, and particularly when it came to Pete Rose, unlike Myles Brand who would have banned him from the game to get a better job, or Krause who wanted to show how talented he was as a scout, Giamanti wanted to be viewed as a HISTORICAL FIGURE. Like George Washington or Rosa Parks.

And so he yelled "witch" in Cincinnati, and Pete Rose suddenly couldn't run fast enough before they were tossing him over the chasm.

Player-manager. Pete Rose was Bill Russell.

He might have bet on games, okay...but if you don't bet AGAINST YOUR TEAM, you didn't do NOTHING GOSH DANG WRONG!!!! And that means EVER!!! I'm wrong?! Point shaving doesn't entail your team losing but that's wrong too? Fine, hubpages. You won this round.

The disconnect between the people who run Major League Baseball and the fans is disgusting. Their problem is that every other league, less tradition-bound, has goofy junkies of the sport in their advertising or personnel offices, who can properly translate the vision that the fans most likely to give them money would have swimming in their heads. This is why the NBA, NFL and the NHL have the fans' love and respect. Yes, NHL teams are beautiful for fan extrapolation. There is an image there, an image that rubs off, and hockey's awesome. But only in Major League Baseball is every move of selfish and corruption so poorly and unprofessionally executed that it becomes obvious to the most casual fan these people are crooks. Baseball crooks are SO BAD AT LYING AND BS that their rebuttals at simple, handleable, objective, general press interviews are the very forum where they give themselves away completely!

Michael Vick is an Eagle again and Pete Rose isn't in the Hall.
