PLR is an abbreviation for Private Label Rights. But the bigger picture is what it applies to -- content written by someone else.

You are buying a specified set of rights to use another writer's content. The most common types of content for sale are an ebook, an article, a collection of articles, and a short report. However, it could be graphics, video, music, or just about anything that is subject to the copyright laws.

At this point the main thing is to realize EXACTLY what rights you have purchased. There is no standard, so you must read the fine print to understand precisely what you can and cannot do with that content.

It is also an excellent idea to store the details of those rights, should they ever be called into question. What you are allowed to do, who you purchased from, type of payment, and the date of purchase are good items to have available, should an attorney ever come knocking on your virtual door.

Other people can almost always buy the same content as you, so you lack exclusivity.

This means you must rewrite that content you just paid for before using it! Otherwise you can run into duplicate content penalties from Google and/or copyright infringement problems. Here come those attorneys again.

So, just why would any sane person buy content that has to be rewritten (let's just call it PLR for simplicity).

Time:

• research time
• organization time
• avoiding procrastination time.

You now have something tangible in front of you, instead of a blank computer screen. Plus rewriting is a lot faster than original writing.

Unless ... you made the fatal mistake of buying poor quality PLR. Then you are doomed. Just toss it out and find a better source of PLR.

The internet abounds with PLR opportunities/pitfalls. Use forums, ask your peers, corner a "guru" ... whatever it takes to get a good recommendation. Then sign up and take it for a spin (insider's joke: to spin is to use a computer program to produce a mountain of articles from one. Sound good? Try reading them. Utter garbage and sure to get you banned just about everywhere).

If the PLR group produces quality writing, on time, and in areas that interest you, congratulations. You MAY have a PLR rewriter career ahead of you.

On the other hand, you might just find you prefer actually writing from scratch.

Your final option is to do both: do your own creative writing when you know the subject and use PLR when you would otherwise have to do a lot of research. That is my personal choice.

It's all about time. Buying Quality PLR is buying time. Experienced re-writers can turn out a quality article in seven minutes on a topic they know nothing about. Anyone care to try to match that without PLR?
