Most people need a PSP downgrade because they can't play all the games they have. Compatibility issues, unnecessary security limits, all designed to make your life harder as a PSP user.
Downgrading your PSP firmware is the best option to have maximum compatibility for all types of games and movies you download.
A PSP downgrade is very easy if you know what you are doing.
A word of warning: Many free PSP downgrade guides out there on the net refer to the Asian version of the PSP. I refer to the version sold in the US and Western Europe. If you do a PSP downgrade wrong you not only lose your warranty but you may damage your PSP.
When you get a new game and want to start it often it will 'ask' you to upgrade to the latest firmware version - otherwise you cannot start the game. Now ain't that great customer care? They literally force you to upgrade to the latest PSP firmware to get so called 'security updates'. What they don't tell you is that these new versions will severely limit your options of what to do with your PSP. When they say 'security' they means theirs - not yours.
Older versions didn't have most of these f***** protection features that the current PSP firmware versions have. This is why older firware versions give your a greater flexibility. So what you will basically do is tune your PSP just like you would do with a sports car whose engine was crippled by politically correct engineers.
Since I got my first PSP I have done several PSP downgrades. There are many ways to 'pimp your PSP' but the safest way is showm in these
I don't care what they say in certain forums - this is the way I have done it and it works!
I have tested it with PSP firmware versions 2.8x, 3.03 and 3.50.
Any versions inbetween these will also do.
What People Have Asked Me About Downgrading Their PSP
Will I be able to upgrade again?
Yes, you will. Any downgrade can be undone by simply reverting back kto the original version in the PSP system setup menu (hard wired into any PSP) or by installing one of the updates you have installed from UMDs you got.
Will my Saves Games Still Work?
Yes, saved games have nothing to do with the firmware version. You won't see any effect on saved games.
Will my movies still play smoothly.
Yes, the system software does not effect the software that plays videos and music.
Is downgrading legal?
Clome On! Yes, you own your PSP. You can do with it whatever you want. Neither Sony nor Bill Gates or Paris Hilton can tell you what software you should run your PSP with.
How long does it take?
I usually do it in 8 minutes. Figure 10-15 minutes for the PSP downgrade process - not more.
Should I recharge the PSP before the downgrade?
Yes, at least make sure it isn't so low on battery that it will die in the middle of the downgrade procedure.
How does downgrading affect the value of my PSP when I resell it?
Smart question: The resell value of your PSP will INCREASE - usually by $20 -$50. Check the prices of downgraded PSPs on ebay. People pay more for them because they know they can play much more games and videos on downgraded PSPs. (Just like on PS2s with Mod Chip) Just for some reason people are afraid of downgrading so they rather pay more for it that do it themselves. Poor guys!
How is this? You can even buy used PSPs on eBay, downgrade them and resell them for $50 more. Just an idea. The market is there. With the PSP Downgrade Guide your should be able to downgrade 4-5 PSPs per hour!

NO as of now there is no downgrade method for firmware above 3.52....sorry guys. There is a somwat good chance that there will be one in the not too distant future...but thats no garentee. My advice to everyone that wants to downgrade is to STOP upgrading!!

The downgrader for firmware 3.52 is not going to come out
i've been waiting for some time now but Sony have already released the slimline psp that runs off a firmware higher than 3.52 (somewhere bouts 3.81?) so hackers, unfortunently cant be bothered to help us paly free games?
The only way to downgrade from 3.52 to 1.5 is PANDORA'S BATTERY but I have yet to use this as it seems quite time consuming and you need spare batterys and stuff

YES!!!! I did it and I'm a noob I got my firmware form 3.5.2 to 1.5.0 using the pandoras battery method. I had to manually take my battery apart and cut one of the connectors but once I got that far the rest was easy. Only questions is which firmware is the best to use and do i need to do it in steps

Ok I found a new way its called Pandoras Battery. Now theres a link to the main site on this (The links genna be on my Name so click that) Supposobly Theres videos saying that battery can even unbrick UR PSP and it will take it back down to firmware 1.50 from any type of firmware! so if ur Firmware is over 1.50 to 3.90 Which is the latest firmware it will still take it back to 1.50. Thanks for this little guide pspfan, that was pretty cool. I installed custom firmware from PG a couple weeks ago, and it's amazing what the pandora battery can do these days. I have a freind who bricked his PSPs a year or so ago, and he had to sell these off for parts for very cheap. If the pandora battery was around then, he could have restored his PSP to it's original state with ease.
When you begin downloading, to make sure the filenames have “PSP” at the end of them. Some sites offer multiple formats so it’s good to check that it’s for PSP before wasting your time!

i need a downgrade for a psp custom firmware 6.00
i own a psp-2000, the vendor already downgraded it up to version 3.50. but after sony released the version 5.51, i couldn't resist to the cool new features added on the software(so stupid act), so i upgraded my psp to version 5.51(hella stupid). now the problem is that i cant play any of my iso and cso games and i cant play my mp4 movies on my psp. so guys, can anyone please help me to downgrade my psp from 5.51 to 3.50, you can reach me through my email juliopol84@yahoo.com.ph

Bought a psp2004 mb ta088 OFW 5.50, can't be downgraded because it has mb ta088v3, anything lower can be since 1Nov09, look at pspgen.com So I must wait like many others for about another 6 months before there will be a way to downgrade because OFW 5.03 can be cracked. Now you really pissed me off Sony, I will not forget this. Hey Sony, why don't you give us atleast some of the free versions for us, that homebrew does, like maybe pspident, etc. I do understand that Sony and game makers have to make money, but blind siding will only leave a bad taste in our mouths. A chacun sont tours.

the solution for PSP 1000 with a firmware 6.10 is using pandora battery..(recommended)
1.hold L,R and off...don't release L,R..then on..choose the mode that has a EBOOT.PBP word..
all version will be displayed choose 5.00
2.if don't have it,ask for friend help or to the shop..
3.factory reset if non of your friend have pandora battery..
