PVC vs Leather

There is a big controversy out there over which style motorcycle saddlebags are superior. What is all the talk about? You're going to get all the up to date information possible on synthetic leather and genuine leather, and exactly what the similarities are and what the differences are.

Similarities

Lets start by talking about how the two are alike. Both leather saddlebags and synthetic leather saddle bags both have the same purpose, to add storage and protect belongings from harsh weather conditions while on/off the road, also both types can be purchased in bolt-on or detachable form, and come in a wide variety of sizes, styles, and shapes.

Differences

Now on the other hand lets talk about the differences. With traditional leather there is an issue of maintenance. Genuine leather is just like your skin, you have to moisterize and condition so it will not dry out and crack. Where as a synthetic will stand up to dry weather much better, with less care. Next we have to talk about gravity. Over time genuine leather will expand and contract and may begin to sag or stretch, where as synthetic leather will not stretch. We also have to think about what impact the harmful UV rays from the sun will have on the product. Genuine leather over time will fade, as opposed to synthetic which will not. One final difference between the two is flammability. Now I'm not going to tell you that you can't light genuine leather on fire, but synthetic leather is by far more flammable. So you make the call, Genuine leather, or Synthetic leather?
