Is it true that for 2009 there is a portion (i.e. your first 2500) is not subject to federal tax and won't need to be reported as wages. I recall hearing that but can't back it up on the IRS website or Pa Unemployement site.

My husband collected unemployment benefits from 5/31/08 until 11/30/08, but then, due to his depressed mood, he just stopped applying weekly on line for his benefits. I just found out about this and had him reapply for benefits. Will he be able to collect? (I know he was eligible for 12 months of unemployment comp, but if he stopped applying in Nov and there now is a gap of 7 months, can he now collect the remaining 6 mohths of benefits? )

What is the current length of unemployment benefits in PA?

I've currently exhausted my state 26-week and I am on the EUC Tier 1.

I understand there is Tier 2, which takes it to 59 weeks. Is there additional time beyond that?

Thanks!

Last year,I was let go from my job no fault of my own and collected UC until October 08, I went on EUC 1 from Novemeber 08 to March 09. I was eligible for a regular UC claim and now I exhausted my benefits. I was told I could be eligible for Tier 2 which is 13 more weeks or EB. Which one is right? I've been looking for work since I was let go from my job and haven't been hired for the jobs I've applied at. Its frustrating as I have a family to feed and to house. I know my husband wont be able to support us with his salary. Any help will be appreciated

The first $2,400.00 is not taxed (federal). Here is the link:

http://www.dli.state.pa.us/landi/cwp/view.asp?a=35

This refers to Pennsylvania UE but the federal law regarding taxation would apply to everyone.
